Short recap: Chloe and Josh were driving to the hospital. They realized they had a really good connection and they were interested in a lot of the same things. Chloe had a flashback and passed out, but she's all good now. This chapter will be what happens at the hospital. Enjoy!

Happy Reading!

Chloe's p.o.v

We reached the tall white building at the end of the road. Butterflies fluttered in my stomach as I thought of my mom lying in that hospital bed. But, I pushed it away and told myself to be strong for mom's sake.

Josh pulled into an open parking spot and we walked into the hospital together. He went up to the front desk and asked in his charming voice, "Grace Stevens please."

The young lady at the front desk blushed and giggled. It made me roll my eyes, but then I realized I had done the same thing.

"Room 204, down this hall to the left."

Josh nodded his head and began to walk towards me when the lady stopped him. "Hey um, do you maybe want to get a drink later?" I put my hand into a tight fist, angry at the lady but also worried Josh would say yes. I mean, why wouldn't he? She was good looking and young, what every man dreams of right? Why do I even care about this? It's not like Josh and I will ever get together. Ugh, then why am I so jealous?

I gasped and was snapped out of my thoughts when Josh answered, "Um, no sorry. I have something to do...later." He cleared his throat and walked away. When he got me he gestured where the room was and guided me. I looked back at the lady who was self consciously looking at herself in the mirror to see if there was something on her face. I chuckled and kept walking.

We walked down a long hallway crowded with rushing nurses, anxious doctors and crying relatives. Once we got passed all that, we finally reached my mom's room. I rushed ahead of Josh and barged in.

"Mom!" I exclaimed as I ran to her arms.

"Oh, Chloe sweetheart. I'm so glad you came." She sounded out of breath and her voice was quiet. Just that was enough to get the tears flowing, I was glad I wore water proof mascara.

"I'll um, leave you two alone." Josh smiled to my mom and then exited the room.

"Of course I came mom. Oh, I was so worried about you. W-What's wrong? It's nothing big right mom." When she didn't answer and looked down I stiffened. "Right?"

"Oh honey. Remember when grandma passed away?"

"Y-yes. She had stage 4 lung cancer. B-but that's not what you have, right? I-I mean the doctors would have caught that earlier, they would have figured it out with a-all the blood tests and stuff, right? I-I mean you don't, you don't have that. Right mom? P-please tell me you don't have that."

My mom slowly nodded her head. "I do sweetheart, I have it, b-but they're treating it. I'm going to do chemo and surgeries and all sorts of stuff honey. But, e-either way. I only have a few more months, maybe a year." I could see she was fighting back tears and I wanted to yell at her and say that she doesn't have to be so strong all the time, but I knew that wouldn't help.

I couldn't think of what to say, so I just sobbed into her arms. Eventually she fell asleep, but I didn't want to leave. So, I pulled up a chair by her bed, and then without even realizing, I fell into a deep sleep.

Josh's p.o.v

I walked into the room to find Chloe and her mom asleep. I was about to turn back out and leave when a nurse stopped me.

"Could you please take the girl out of the room. We have to prep Mrs.Stevens for surgery."

I nodded and the nurse said thank you.

I walked over to when Chloe was and bent down. "Chloe, we gotta leave the room. They're gonna get your mom ready." I whispered in a hush voice.

Chloe mumbled something and started to get up. I helped her up and outta the room. They shut the doors behind us and we went to sit in the waiting area.

"Where's mom?" I grumbled, still half asleep.

"They are prepping her for surgery. You can go back to sleep."

"No, I have to ask you something." I slowly lifted myself up.

"What?"
