My alarm went off at 7am. I always regret going to parties on school nights, I wasn't even hungover just exhausted.
The lights in my house weren't on which was odd considering my mum is usually leaving for work about now. I walked into her room and the curtains were still drawn, a peep of sunlight reflected on her mirror. On the cupboard besides her bed was a half empty bottle of vodka.
"Mum" I shook the body in the bed. I could see her chest moving but she wasn't resounding to me.
"Shit" i spoke as I saw the patch of blood on the side of her head.
I didn't know what to do because I could see her breathing but she wasn't waking up.
My mum had been sober for 7 years and I was so proud of her but seeing her passed out in bed with an empty bottle beside her seemed all too familiar. I remembered when my mum and dad used to stumble in at 4 in the morning, both blackout drunk. That's the thing with both parents being alcoholics, they don't realise they have a problem because one always encourages the other to drink on.
"Kyra" my mum spoke rubbing her eyes and sitting up.
"Mum what the fuck happened"
She went on to explain that she'd done something bad which led her to drink herself unconscious and smash her head on the cupboard.
"What did you do mum" I questioned,perching myself on the edge of the bed avoiding the patches of blood.
"I'm so sorry sweetie" she spoke bursting into tears struggling to look at me.
"I've been having an affair. I knew it wasn't right but hearing that your dad is getting out of prison made me realise how in love with him I am"
In that moment I must have gone blue. I didn't want to become that family that's filled with rage and siblings get split up and there's so much hatred.
"Who is it? Do I know them? I swear if I know them mum." I couldn't look at her.
"It's George" she could hardly get the words out with how hysteric she was.
I ran to the toilet and vomited.
I fell to the ground and couldn't breathe, the walls were closing in on me.
My mum was fucking my best friends boyfriend.
