Not Dead

The eyes of a true monster bore into my soul and I could feel all hope leave my being. Depression sunk in and I was more than eager to fight. I yearned for the thrill of battle and confrontation. He swung a cinderblock of a hand at my head and I ducked quickly and threw a trashcan at him. A small smirk rose on his face as mockery and taunting spewed from him. He charged me and I tried to dodge him but couldn't move quickly enough. The giant toppled over on me and pinned me against the ground. I could feel my head smash into the concrete and a dull pain spread through my skull.

"You're a sad excuse of an opponent," he grumbled as his fist threatened to smash my head. A surge of energy erupted from me and sent the giant hurdling into a tree.

"Would you like to say that again?" I said then turned to Loki. Another two frost giants were advancing on him. His focus was on the one in front of him and his oblivion to the one behind him was obvious. I used that energy burst on the giant behind Loki and pushed the giant aside, keeping Loki safe and drawing the monster's attention to me. I planted my feet firmly on the ground in the middle of the street as the giant started to run. His long and muscular legs pounded the ground beneath him as he barreled towards me. I narrowed my eyes to slits, as he grew closer and stood with my elbow bent outwards, wanting to cause some sort of pain to the giant. I waited to feel myself go airborne and turn into a rocket, soaring toward a roof or tree, but I remained standing. The ground beneath me cracked and broke as I was pushed backwards and my heels dug into its grooves. I laughed slightly then grabbed the frost giant by the arm and flung him away from me using an energy surge to stop his heart.

Loki stared at me in disbelief before running toward me and opening the door of the car, allowing the girls to rush to me. I held onto them like I would if Dorothy were here. Tears fell from my eyes as I looked at their terrified faces streaked with tears. A shadow cast over us slowly and my head whipped towards the sky. Loki looked toward the source of our shade and fear: a lean, frost giant that towered over the giants that we had just faced. The patterns on the giant's face matched those I remember seeing on Loki.

"Forget the Asgardians and this filth," he said, "and come home, son." Son? Loki? ... Laufey? But he was supposed to be dead.

"You are not my father," Loki stated, fearlessly standing between Laufey and us four mortals.

"Don't be ridiculous!" Laufey said touching Loki. His skin instantly turned blue as he stood with his father. "You are more alike to me than you ever were to that poor excuse of a king, Odin."

"I killed you," Loki said, his voice not changing in tone. "And you're going to wish you would have stayed dead."

"Stop being foolish," Laufey hissed and then looked past Loki and into my eyes. "Foolery will get you killed. Caring will get you no where, and trusting this scoundrel is a scandal."

"My name is Anastasia!" I said standing up and standing beside Loki. "Anastasia Vandal!"

"Whatever you call yourself makes no difference in what you are. Loki will understand soon enough and you will be alone in your life, again, just as it should be. Without family, without friends, and without anything more than the creatures you find in this 'precious' thing called nature you're so engrossed in." He paused and turned back to Loki who was not tense and swayed lightly as he moved around. "You will encounter creatures darker and more sinister than I within the week."

"Is that a threat?" Loki asked.

"You beloved Frigga is the goddess of prophecy. Ask her if you refuse to believe your own father." I could see the hate boiling over in Loki's eyes as he repressed his frost giant form. Without knowing what I was doing, a dark mist conjured around Laufey's ankles and swirled up, engulfing his body and transporting him elsewhere. I turned back to the girls and looked at their faces. Shock, terror, awe and fear rolled through their minds and I desperately looked at Loki for help.

"None of this happened," he said then waved his hand over the girls' faces, erasing their memory of the previous incident. I sent them back inside and collected my money from Crystal when she came and dragged Loki with me to my car. "Now where are we going?" he asked impatiently and not at all shaken up by the threats given by his father.

"We're headed to the STARK Tower," I said flipping the car into drive and hurrying toward Tony's home.

Sorry this one is so much shorter and kind of all over the place. I've obviously made it to where Laufey is alive to help the polt. It will all become clear the further into the story we get. I'd like to know what you think of this one. Comment what you want to see in the next chapter. :)
