•Chapter Four - Horrid Car Ride•

I stood out by the stairs that lead to the main building. Waiting, I am waiting for Mason. Classes are over and I have been waiting for twenty minutes now.

"Hey, Ella." Mason's husky voice called out.

My head snapped up to see him walking over with his arm slung over a leggy, blue eyed, blonde. Her lip gloss was smudged and some was left on Mason's face.

"Mason." I replied curtly.

"Sorry I'm late. I was busy." He smirked.

"That's lovely." I rolled my eyes.

"I'm going to go, call me later." The girl batted her eyelashes and slid out from under his arm. Before leaving, she flashed me a victory smirk as she whipped her lips.

"See you, Caroline." He looked away from her, to me. "Are you ready to leave?" Mason asked.

I snapped my eyes up to meet his. "Has anyone ever told you that you are quite the jerk?"

"Excuse me?" He raised his eyebrow.

"You tell me to wait for you and you go make out with a girl, making me wait twenty minuets for you. You're. A. Jerk." I snapped. "Did you just assume I'd wait here forever?"

"Well, you did wait." he chuckled.

"Only because of the project." I glared.

"Awh, come on. I thought we were friends." he snickered.

"I don't like you, and I don't want to be your friend." I gripped my hands into a fist. Oh gosh, what did I just say? Damnit, I let my person feelings interven in my job.

He pulled smug smirk on and leaned forward, sticking his face in mine. "I never asked you to be my friend, Ella."

I pushed him away. "Lets just get the project over with."

"Yeah, let's go." He turned around and led us to his car. "Get in."

"Don't order me around, Mason." I snickered as I slowly got into the car. I settled into the seat and I took a deep breath. The feeling, to have my legs actually touch the seat fabric, created a little flame of panic inside me. But once he put the car on the road, it set anxiety to flow through my veins.

He started to speed down the road and my heart just dropped into my stomach. I dug my nails into the leather seat and squeezed my eyes shut. I felt his car swerve to switch lanes. "No, stop!" I cried out and started panting. I felt the car jerk into a stop as he slammed on the breaks.

"What?" he asked panicked.

I pop my eyes open and let go of the seat, to clutch my chest. "I'm sorry." I stuttered.

"What the hell happened?" he eyed me with a mix of confusion and worry.

"Nothing." I mumbled, trying to take a deep breath.

"Nothing?" he asked with a baffled look. "You just screamed at me to stop my car in the middle of the road."

"Don't worry about it." I sigh pulling my legs up to my chest trying to get my breathing under control.

"Are you scared of cars or something stupid like that?" he snickered.

I snapped my head up to look him in the eyes. "Being scared of cars is not stupid." I snapped.

"So you are?" he raised his eyebrows.

"No comment." I mumbled.

"Why?" he asked.

"Car accident." I muttered as people started honking their horns at us.

"Must have been some car accident." he said slowly and he started driving again.

"It was. It's kind of like a piece of me died that day." I trailed off.

"Oh. I'm sorry?" he questioned.

"It's okay, just don't drive to fast." I sigh.

We pulled up into the drive way of the house I recall being his. I got out of the car onto my jelly of legs. The ground felt so much better under my feet. I followed him into the house.

"Honey, is that you?" a lady called out from the next room.

"Yeah." Mason called out.

The lady walked in and I recognized her as his mother. "Hello, my darling." she looked over at me with shock shining on her face. "Who is this?"

"This is Ella." Mason shrugged his jacked off. "Ella, this is my mother."

"Hi." I smiled.

"Hello, sweetie." A grin took over her face. "My, aren't you a beautiful girl. It's nice to meet you." she reached her hand out. I reached out and returned her handshake. As my hand touched her hand, I felt a sharp pain in my ribs and arms.

'Take the pain away.' I ordered my magic.

I watched as she let out a breath of comfort. I smiled and pulled my hand away from hers. "It's a pleasure to meet you." I nodded my head to her.

Mason pulled me up the stairs and into his room. "I'm sorry for my mom. She's annoying." he apologized.

"I liked her. But you should be nicer to her. Respect your elders." I stretched my arms above my head.

"I feel like I've heard that before." I stared at him with wide eyes. "It's a stupid phrase." Now, that caused me to glare, making him laugh.
