How To Play

Ace's POV

I can't help but giggle when I see Space collide with another town member. And she calls me clumsy? I'm just going to call this instant karma for making fun of me with the whole door fiasco. Yep, she's never living this down. Or maybe she will, depends on how long she talks about the whole door situation...

Lightly chuckling, I take a deep breath and I shift around a bit more, uncomfortable with being up on this metallic pedestal. I've never been very accustomed to the spot-light. Although, technically, I am not in the spot-light because twelve other people also have to be up here as well. My mind wanders again and I begin to inspect the very thing I'm standing on. The construction is simple; it's a silver-looking metal, with a few floral designs etched in it. A soft, white glow comes from where I'm standing. It's pretty, in a way. I can't help but notice everyone's is slightly different, in the patterns and metals, but we all have a soft white glow coming from our feet.

Speaking of observations, I redirect my attention to Bri. She's chatting with the girl that collided paths with her. I can't help but try and think of a Space pun. Something about asteroids and rocking worlds. My brain is too frazzled to process much of anything. With the whole 'you've been put inside of a video game with a bunch of strangers that might be out to get you' situation, life is getting a little hard to figure out.

Boooinnnng

Startled by the loud, obtrusive sound, I almost fall off my pedestal and onto the unforgiving ground. I look around and see I'm not the only one who jumped. These bells can really only mean one thing; the day is about to begin. And I don't see why it shouldn't. Bri-sorry, Space-is the last one to her spot, and everyone else is glancing around the circle warily. The tension is so thick, I don't think a 1000 degree knife could cut it.

"Hello!", a booming voice, well, booms. Again, I jump at the sudden noise. What is it with this game and scaring the daylights out of me?

"Welcome to the town, players! And, welcome to a game of mystery, deception, and for most of you... dEATH." A wave of unease washes through the town and I can't help but grimace at the thought. While nobody wants to die, the fact that it's in a video game that shouldn't be real, makes it even more scarier.

"Today is Day One! No one has died! Moving into: Discussion Mode."

Silence.

The voice doesn't talk again, I think it wants us to talk. Space makes eye contact with me from across the circle and shakes her head. She isn't going to talk first, we both know it. With a sigh, I take it upon myself to be the first one to speak. "Hi guys, my name is Ace, and I've been sober for sixteen years!" Okay, a lame joke, but at least it was something. A few people crack a smile and even fewer repeat back my name. The girl to my right, a woman with dark skin and a mischievous grin, also joins in. "Sup. I'm Seamstress and I've been sober for fifteen years!"

Soon the entire town is laughing and joining in as well. I can't help but smile a bit- I mean honestly-I did start this whole conversation.

Bzzzzt.

I jump again as the sound of static booms around the town. This game can stop scaring me anytime now! Seriously. Weird noises are coming from all directions and I realizes it's everyone making gasping noises. Glancing at everyone, I see that they are all looking at the sky in bewilderment. I look up at the sky in awe, the bright, crystal blue sky is slowing being taken over by a darker blue.

"It is now Night Time, please return to your homes!"

From across the circle, I give Space a tiny wave and a confident smile. I then promptly turn on my heel, jump off the platform, totally stick the landing, and march towards my house. A bit apprehensively, I open the door and let out a small breath of relief when it doesn't re-whack me in the head. It closes silently and I walk over to my desk; and turn on the small lamp that sits there. The antique looking papers make a small shuffling sound as I ruffle through them. Aha! There it is. I have no idea how this works, but I'll just have to trust in this... game.

N1- Jewel

Slowly and hesitantly, I pick my way over to the wooden bed. I will admit, that the confidence act was just that. This entire situation is a bit terrifying. But I know, that no matter what, I have to stay strong. For the both of us.

We won't die, I will not allow it...
