I sat fuming in my bed, the anger in me slowly letting off after a while.

Once I felt I was decent again, I looked down from my bed at my phone that was laying on the ground. I got up and bent down, picking my phone up. I checked it. "Two new messages," it said. I read the most recent one:

"Srry about mommy. I don't know what's wrong with her. She's not talking to me now, I think she's pissed. W/e. Have fun at Detroit the rest of your time. Make sure to send me Eminem stuff muahaha. ;)"

Oh, sis. I went to check the next one:

"Sal wait did you meet my bro? I was talking to him on the phone and he mentioned this girl with your name he met last night! It sounded alot like you and idk how many girls have the same name. Also a surprise?"

I smiled widely. I didn't know where to begin. I replied immediately:

"Omg yes, that's me! That's the surprise haha! I can explain more to you later in detail. I didn't let Marshall know any of my contact info. because I wanted us to plan something together. Do you think you can help me out with meeting up with him? I think it'd be funny if we surprise him together...what do you think?

Since it had been a long reply, I decided to start getting ready. I was going to go out soon either way. Nate was probably preoccupied at the moment himself. I was in the middle of doing my hair in the bathroom when I heard my phone go off shortly after. I sprinted to it.

"No way that's sick! Oh but dude that would be so funny! Yea I'd love to help you out. Are you doin anything now? I actually have to go into town by Rochester Hills. Wanna meet outside his place? We can both can go in together. I didn't tell him I knew u. That would be funny as hell."

I brightened up. That would be brilliant. I was in on that wholeheartedly. In enthusiasm, I wrote back.

"I know haha! <3 Dude but omg! You're dope for thinking that up. Let's do it!"

I got myself dressed and ready in an instant. He let me know the address, the time to meet him outside the gate, and other small details. We were going to show up at Marshall's house and enter and surprise him together. I was entirely too excited for this.

I found myself waiting outside the hotel once again. I had phoned the taxi as soon as I finished preparing myself. I stood there wearing my gray crewneck "Detroit VS. Everybody" sweater, a black, flirty skater skirt underneath, black transparent thigh high tights, and my black Converse high tops. I also wore the imitation "AA" necklace chain Marshall had. I did my hair in bouncy curls and had makeup on. I had my "Slim Shady" bag in hand as well as Marshall's jacket I'd forgotten to return to him. I felt good about how I looked and was ready for this.

A short while later, the taxi pulled up. I hopped in the back, telling the driver the address Nate had given me. I sent Nate a quick text telling him I was on my way.

After some time, we had made it to the destination. It looked different from last time but it was surely the right location. I was able to see everything now under the broad daylight; everything looked so grand in plain sight. I noticed a car parked outside the gated area. I saw a figure come out of the car; it was Nate.

Without hesitation, I got out of the taxi, paying the driver, and quickly ran up to greet him. "Nathan! It's so nice to see you. Thanks so much for this," I said cheerfully.

"Hey, good seeing you too. And no prob—" he stopped, eyes resting on me. "Wow, you look amazing."

I laughed nervously. "Really? Why, thank you," I blushed noticeably.

"You're welcome," Nate shot me a sweet smile. "I'm still in shock how you two met. He told me everything on the phone. Isn't it crazy?" He proceeded to enter the code and unlock the gate.

I watched, inhaling. "It is."

"Also, I told my brother I was coming over to see him. I couldn't go in through the gates without telling him, you know? I said I was going to stop by to visit—but he doesn't know that you're with me."

"That's fine, whatever works," I said, grinning.

I entered and stepped onto the driveway as I watched Nate hop back into his vehicle and pull it all the way in in order to park it. I suddenly took a look at everything around me. The house being so close, me being in Marshall's front yard. I was on his property now. This was much different than simply being a spectator from outside. Nate came out of the car, motioning for both of us to start toward the front door.

I began to have second thoughts as I ran up, catching up to him. "Nate, I don't know... are you sure it's okay we're doing this?"

"Hey, relax, you're more than welcome here. From him and me too, I'm sure. There's no need for permission," he assured me.

"He won't get mad? I feel like he doesn't know me well enough for me to be allowed here," I spoke uneasy.

He shushed me. "Don't worry, worst case scenario, he'll just tell you to wait outside for him. But I doubt it, he wouldn't do that to you. It's private here. It's hard for him to be out in the day without being attacked by people and paps."

I sighed. "If you say so," I said quietly. We reached the doorway. Nate was about to go for the doorbell when I clutched his arm in a panic. "Wait! How are we going to do this? Just yell out, 'Surprise'?"

"I mean, I guess! Unless you had something else in mind?" he asked me for any other suggestions.

"I don't know," I kept my voice down. "I need a second; I'm nervous."

"There's no need to be. Hey, I'm here with you," he patted me.

That soothed me. "Thank you," I smiled.

"This will be fun," he smiled back at me. "You ready?" he gave my shoulder a squeeze.

"Yeah," I took one final deep breath in. "Ready as can be."
