Iago (Othello) : The Monster Is My Master
Iago [Aside]
Thick lipped devil
Dares do away with the days
When men were rewarded par excellence
Not sucklings as Lieutenants
[Spits]
I suppose he has done my job in the home as well
Laying atop my wife
Treacherous whore
Oh, Moor
Surely thou knowest
As not all men can be masters,
Neither can all masters be followed
For I follow thee for myself
Honest Iago for you all
But I must ask myself
Tis because of the woman or the position
That I despise thee so?
Or mere jealousy
For a reason unknown to me
I cannot confess this vile reason
It is unnatural
I am not what I am
But I am jealous
And that terrible monster
I fear
Is the master I follow.

Othello is hands down my favourite Shakespeare play, mostly because it's the first one that I read and actually understood.
(Hurray for IGCSE Literature!)I have always been intrigued by Iago, his villainous-ness and smarts are my favourite things about him.
So, I decided to give him a little aside. We never really get his true deep reasons for his evil so I came up with this. I think his behaviour is for a couple of intangible reasons that kind of just come together and vex him so much.
What Shakespeare plays are your favourite? Do you have any recommendations for me?
