Dawnclaw padded slowly into camp, head down. Thornpetal, Nightshade, and Frostfang did the same.

Featherstar and Snowstorm rushed from their dens and came running at the injured patrol.

“What happened?!”

Frostfang looked at her paws as Nova came rushing over. As Nova carried Frostfang over to the medicine den, Dawnclaw looked at Featherstar, trying to hold back her anger and grief.

“We found the rogues that are responsible for the attacks. I went in alone to speak with their leaders, Flare and Bandit. When I did though, Bandit and his group of rogues, The Ghosts, tried to convince me to betray you. When I told them no, I signaled the patrol to help me and we fought. Midna cornered Cloudfur and snapped his neck before I could get to him.”

Featherstar let out a cry of grief and buried her face in Cloudfur’s fur.

Lunaheart, Honeydew, Foxtail, and the rest of Dawnclaw’s clanmates came around to grieve the dead deputy.

Dawnclaw looked at her wounds and noticed how badly her patrol was injured.

“Come on, let’s go see Snowstorm.”

Thornpetal and Nightshade headed towards the medicine den, Dawnclaw treading slowly behind them.

It’s all my fault Cloudfur’s dead. If I wasn’t distracted by Stone I could have made it to Midna!

Dawnclaw laid down in a nest and looked at Snowstorm and Nova working together to find the right herbs.

At least they're getting along.

Snowstorm walked over holding multiple herbs.

As she dressed Dawnclaw’s wounds, Snowstorm shoved thyme and poppy seeds towards Dawnclaw.

“Here, you seem a little stressed. Why don’t you get some rest.”

Dawnclaw lapped up the herbs without hesitation and closed her eyes to sleep.

As she slept, however, Dawnclaw’s dreams were plagued with Cloudfur and Midna.

What she had said just before she had snapped Cloudfur’s neck, her delighted face after killing him, her ultimate power.

Dawnclaw woke suddenly, noticing that the earth around her was scraped up.

Padding outside, Dawnclaw saw that the moon was just coming up and Featherstar was leaping onto High Rock.

I’m guessing that they already buried Cloudfur, oh well. I’ll pay my final respects to him in the morning.

“All cats that are old enough to catch their own prey please join beneath High Rock for a clan meeting!”

Dawnclaw trotted out and join her clanmates underneath High Rock.

“Earlier today, our deputy, Cloudfur, was defeated in battle. As you all know, I must choose a new deputy before moonhigh and I have decided who that cat will be.”

Dawnclaw’s fur fluffed out in excitement.

“I say these words before StarClan, so that the spirits of our warrior ancestors may hear and approve of my choice. The new deputy of Fireclan is Lunaheart”

“Lunaheart, Lunaheart!”

As Dawnclaw called out the new deputy's name, she thought about who Cloudfur would have chosen.

I wonder if he would have chosen me. I know that Lunaheart is a good choice, but I wish I was deputy.

Dawnclaw looked over at the new deputy and smiled.

“Lunaheart!”

Lunaheart dismissed the warriors around her and walked over to Dawnclaw.

“Yes Dawnclaw?”

“When will we get revenge for Cloudfur? I want to be at the head of the battle patrol!”

And I hope that I’ll be the one to sink my claws into Bandit’s pelt.

“I like your spirit Dawnclaw, it never seems to break. I will speak with Featherstar about it. I was hoping within the next two sunrises. That way everyone can prepare and your patrol can heal.”

Dawnclaw nodded and went back into the medicine den, seeing that everyone was already asleep again.

Dawnclaw curled up to sleep once more, but before she fell asleep, she planned the perfect way to avenge Cloudfur.
