Dani's POV
I just sat there, confused on why they would pick me. Why I was their best fit. And why Vanessa was crying and hugging me. She had started crying the moment Lin had read the list. As soon as he used the words non abusive. I mean, I had gone through hell with the other foster homes I had been in. All ten, to be exact. I had never been put in one of the good ones. And to be honest, I didn't care. As long as I got picked. But I was ready to start crying myself. "So you really think I might be the best fit?" I asked, unable to believe it.
"Well, Lin and I need to talk over somethings and if we can decide. But yes. I personally think you're the best fit for us." I left the room then and turned back to see them smiling and already talking.
The five of us girls sat on the couch in the common area. Then, out came Lin and Vanessa. All five of us came out of the trances we were in. They stood there, looking at us. Lin, Vanessa and I had talked for like an hour, which was longer than everyone else, who had only talked for like 15 minutes at most. So, I hoped we clicked and I could get adopted. Or at least fostered. And if I did, if I'd have a good life.
"So, we have come to a decision that we are going to foster Dani." I gasped as I heard my name come from his voice. I choked on my breath as I started to cry. I'd finally be getting out of this hell hole. The one place I couldn't stand.
I ran to my room and grabbed my very few belongings, three shirts, two pairs of jeans. I threw them into a plastic bag. Then I head back to the common area. "They're waiting in the entry way." Mrs. Ballard said. I didn't have to listen to her anymore. But instead, just walked right past her, bumping into her to prove a point. She couldn't run me over anymore. I was free of her. No more did I have to be her little maid.
"Are you ready Dani?" Vanessa asked. I nodded and walked to their car with them. "Is that all you have?"
"Yeah. Being bounce around doesn't make good for having much stuff." I informed her. All she did was smile and put her arm over my shoulder.
"Lin will have to bring you shopping then. I have work. There's a new case I have to take care of." She whispered only loud enough for me to hear. "And maybe he'll take you to the theater."
"Why a theater?" I asked, confused by this statement.
"Oh, well, Lin wrote a musical called Hamilton. He also stars in it. He plays Alexander Hamilton. He loves to brag about it. At least at home."
Vanessa and Lin walked to two different cars. I was confused to why they wouldn't use the same car, until I remembered that Vanessa said she had to go to work. I got into the car with Lin and took a shaky breath. Lin's phone went off and he looked up at me. "You need more clothes. We're going to the mall right now." Lin said and we headed to the mall.
Once we were at the mall, the first store we passed was Radio Shack. "A-hah! That's what we have to do first. Get you a phone, computer, and an ipod."
"No, you don't have to." I said, not wanting him to go through the trouble. After all, I was probably gonna mess up. "Please, don't."
"Oh, I will. I have to." He said and dragged me into the store.
"No! Please! Don't!"
"Well, I'm going to have to make Vanessa bring you clothes shopping because, I have no fashion sense. For girls that is."
I looked him up and down. He was wearing a black shirt that said 'Como se llama' on it, black jeans and black black and white Converse. He still had his hair up in a ponytail. "So, you know Spanish too?" I asked, trying to make some conversation with him. He gave me a look of confusion, before realizing what shirt he was wearing.
