Doctor or Savior

Chapter 7: Diagnose

Emma Pov:

After my moment with Killian I head back to Henry's room to see Regina. She informs me that the cars will be ready tomorrow morning so we can leave. Now I have to figure out how to get David out of the hospital. So I walk back to House's office to find him talking with Thirteen and Chase. I walk inside and they stop talking

"What?" I ask concerned

They look at each other then back to the CTs in their hands, Chase passes them to me

"This is of his heart" he says

I hold the scan to the light and examine it. Half of the heart appears to dead. I look at them in shock

"How is that even possible?" I ask

"The question is how his heart lasted this long" House says

"He has a structural abnormality right in the center of the heart." Chase says

"It's a line straight through, of scar tissue possibly, we're not quite sure" Thirteen adds

Suddenly my mind makes a connection. Half of my mom's heart lives inside my dad. He should only have half a heart?

"Cameron!" Chase says interrupting my thoughts

"Sorry what?"

"The only way he'll survive is with a heart transplant" House says

"I know"

"I'll put him on the list" Thirteen says

"No, not just yet" I say then leave

I run back downstairs to Henry's room. He is asleep in the bed and Regina is sitting in a chair next to him. I walk inside and close the door

"Emma, what's wrong" Regina asks

"They took a scan of my dad's heart and half of it is dead. It's because half of my moms heart lives in him right?"

"The magic must make it look like that but obviously he needs magic or he's going to die"

"But why isn't my mom sick, she only has half a heart"

"I don't know but we have to get him back to storybrooke. How do you suggest we get him out of here"

"They want to give him a heart transplant"

"They can't do that or that will kill Snow"

"I'm just going to tell them we are taking him home to die"

"How's Hook"

"He's in a lot of pain but he's okay. How long has Henry been asleep"

"Not that long, he is a bit loopy from the medication"

"Yeah that's normal. I need to go tell my mom what's happening. How long do you think he can live without magic?"

"I don't know why it's failing, it's hard to say how long"

I leave Henry's room and close the door behind me. House is standing right outside the door

"What do you want House" I ask annoyed

"Why don't you want him on the list? Don't you remember how to be a doctor"

"I'm taking him home, you and I both know he won't get a heart in time"

"He should stay here, once he dies we will do an autopsy and figure out why his heart is like this"

"I don't need to know House. He deserves to die home with the people he loves"

"I thought they were all right here"

"His infant son is at home, his sons deserves to say goodbye to his father"

"He's my patient"

"You just want to solve the puzzle. You're upset that you don't really have me figured out after all. I'm taking my family and we are leaving"

"Why did I fire you again"

"I quit"

I leave him standing in the hallway and walk back up to my dads room. Chase is in there informing them of the situation.

"Emma" my dad says

I go over to his bedside and hold his hand

"It's going to be okay" I reassure him

My mom is crying in the chair and Chase is looking at me a bit confused

"I was just telling them that his heart is dying" Chase says

"We are not putting him on the list Chase. I'm taking him home"

"You don't get to make that decision. His wife does"

"Can we have a minute please" Mary Margret asks

Chase leaves reluctantly and closes the door, I go over to Snow and hug her

"Everything will be okay mom. I think his body is rejecting your half of heart. In a world of magic blood type doesn't matter, but here....Basically we need to get him home now"

"Okay we can do that" Snow says optimistically

"Can you talk with Regina and get the cars ready to drive home. I'll get all the discharge papers"

"Okay Emma, don't worry we will make it home"

I smile at my mom and leave the room. I head back down the elevator to Killian's room. I walk inside and find him asleep. I smile at his sweet relaxed face. I pull up a chair and sit down next to him. I kiss his forehead and he starts to stir

"Emma" he says groggily

"I didn't mean to wake you, I just"

"What happened, are you feeling okay, is the baby okay" he says placing a hand on my flat stomach

I smile at him "I'm fine, the baby is okay. But David isn't doing well. If we don't get him home he is going to die, it's because my mom and him share a heart"

"Well then we must go Swan" he says attempting to get up

"No no no, don't sit up to fast"

"Sorry love, I'm just impatient. I don't like being tied down in bed"

"As I recall the last time you were in a hospital bed you told me the exact opposite"

He smirks at me "well as I said before, everything is still intact"

"Still the same old pirate" I say and place a kiss on his lips "I'm going to go talk to the doctors and get us out of here"

"The doctor with the cane or your past love"

"The ass with the cane, don't worry about Chase that was a long time ago"
