Chapter 3: Illusions and Hallucinations

Niall could feel his legs shaking. They were about to give way anytime soon. The atmosphere was tense and silent, with the occasional hiss of the snake, followed by a few soft but rapid chattering of teeth- Each and every single one of them was scared stiff.

"Snake..." Zac mumbled. "Snake?"

"Okay now, slowly, move backwards, everyone," Liam swallowed and tried to keep the situation under control. "Don't get the snake's attention. As long as we get out of its way, it'll probably leave us alone."

Probably is not very assuring but Niall did as he said. Simultaneously, everyone did too. Nelli took Boris over from Fira and covered his eyes before backing away with the group. She has a thing with calming animals like dogs and cats down.

Meanwhile, the snake continued slithering through the grass and mud, its tongue forking in and out at random intervals.

"Don't run," Nelli reminded. "Walk as slowly as possible, don't you dare ever-"

"RUN!" The bus driver's scream pierced through the silence and he started charging towards them. "TAKE ALL YOUR STUFFS AND RUN! THE BUS IS EXPLODING SOON!"

"Wai-" Niall tried to warn him but it was too late. The bus driver tripped over the snake and both snake and man tumbled and got caught in a tangle. The bus driver cursed and upon realising what was on him, he then yelled and tried to pull the snake away from himself recklessly, and screamed, "Argh! Get this thing off me! Help!"

"Relax! Oh my god!" Sherry offered, jumping up and down hysterically, worried for the bus driver yet not daring enough to step out and lend a helping hand.

"And did he just said the bus was exploding soon?" Michelle's terrified voice sounded out.

Her question hung lonely in the air for a while until Aracely finally broke free from Genesis and Niall, screamed a scream so sharp everyone had to cover their ears, she picked up her luggage and went sprinting away, as far from the bus and snake as possible, and she did this all in just a second.

Her awkward fright would have been hilarious if she were a movie because there is not any exciting background music for her. But nobody laughed. Nobody blamed her as well. She was the youngest in the group-only 15 and this was really too big of a crisis for her to handle. Instead, Genesis ran after her, "Genesis! Wait for me!"

Worried for the safety of his sister and girlfriend, Niall chased after them without thinking, lugging along his and Genesis' belongings. "Genesis! Aracely! Calm down!"

"Niall, wait! I'm coming with you!" Niall could hear Cherie running behind him, struggling to keep up with the trio. Glancing behind his back to look at his best friend, Niall also noticed Cherie's boyfriend Zac was just starting after her with his luggage, screaming her name wildly.

The others were staring after them, unsure whether they should stay and rescue the bus driver or run for their own lives. The bus driver was still wailing like it was doomsday which it probably was for him. It was until then Niall realised how selfish he was by running away. He shutted his eyes tight for a second, then sprinted on, regardless. He reassured himself that he was doing his job as a big brother and a boyfriend! It was not as if he has a choice.
