"MOM!" i yelled, instantly bursting into tears and running into her arms.
my mom held me tight, as i sobbed over her shoulder.
"ari baby, what's happened?" my mother, joan's soft voice spoke.
"there's thi-. ive just missed you so much mom!" i said instead. i was scared what the person would do to my mom if i told her.
"no, honey. what happened? i got a call from justin earlier on this morning when i was in San Diego, saying you were in hospital". i heard my mothers voice crack.
"please. please don't cry mom". i said, pulling from the hug and wiping the tear that poured from her eye.
"you don't understand how scared i was. since-". joan began to speak, but stopped when the memory must have gotten too much for her.
and that's when i had a flashback.

"going shop quickly. richard, watch her". my mom spoke to my stepdad, before leaving to go to the store.
richard and i sat in the living room, both of us on separate couches but i still felt his evil stare on me. my eyes stayed glue to the pile of birthday cards that were piled on my crossed legs. it was 10am on june 26th 2003, my 10th birthday and i was alone with him. the last time i was, things didn't go well.
i gulped, scared to look up at the disgusting man that my mother decided to marry. i knew he was only with her for her money, but she didn't know that. i did because he had to told me when we were alone and he tried to touch me, and i hated him for it.
"you cant ignore me forever darling". his country accent rung through my ears, as i saw from the brink of my eye that he had stood up and had slowly begun to walk towards me.
i froze, my eyes widened and i gulped again as he stood right before me and lent down to my level. richard's face was worn out, pale and his expression read out as angry. he stared at me, causing me to slowly look up at him. worse decision of my life.
"and this is what happens to young girls that do not obey my instructions!" his voice boomed out making the veins on his neck to pop out. his face turned red.
richard snatched the envelopes out of my hand, chucked them on the floor causing me to let out a loud scream.
"shut the fuck up!" he roared, before yanking my legs down so i was lying flat on the sofa.
"help!" i screamed at the top of my lungs, as i knew exactly what he was about to do.
"be quiet". he hissed, before pulling out a handkerchief from his back jean pocket and stuffing it in my mouth to silence me.
i wriggled about as much as i could, but that didn't stop richard from pulling down my pink pajama shorts since he was stronger than me.
he cuffed his hand around my underwear covered vagina, making me let out a muffled scream. thankfully before he could do anything worse, i heard the front door open. since richard was partly deaf, he didn't hear my mother approaching.
one last time, i screamed 'help' to get my mothers attention and that's when i heard her heels clank against the floor. i saw her come in from the corner of my eye, and the look she had on her face was disgust, anger and sadness. my mother dropped the store bags on the floor, which alerted richard. he turned around, and pushed himself off of me before looking over at my mum.
joan grabbed the vase from the mini table in the room, before aiming it at richard.
"you wouldn't want to do that now. wouldn't you joan?" richard purred.
