Where is my love?

a/n: Months after Bonnie and the Bennett line had saved Mystic Falls 

(alternative ending of 8x16). Stefan died. Damon was turned human. Elena has not got back together with Damon, who then left Mystic Falls.

Bonnie, Caroline and Elena walked in the Boarding House carrying more books and bags with shopping, followed by Alaric and the twins. 

"Ok, I will finish off here"- Caroline said-"later- but we first need to open that bottle"

Elena went to the kitchen to get some glasses and Bonnie went to check on the mail.

Alaric now joined them as the girls were left in the playroom.

"Champagne, already?"- he said.

"Yes"- Caroline said-"I think that we deserve a little something after everything we've managed with this place in the last few months"

Bonnie putting the letters on the side table, and the one on the top caught Caroline's attention making her heart stop as she looked at the writing. 

"Can you open the bottle?"- she said to Alaric and she swooped over taking the letter. 

Bonnie now noticed her strange vibe and now asked if she was fine. 

"Aha"- Caroline put the letter down under the pile of letters returning to her friends.

The champagne bottle cork popped and as Alaric now poured each of them some of the drink and they all toasted in remembrance of  Stefan and the Salvatore School. 

"New beginnings"- Caroline said and all of them said it.

  There were sad and happy tears mixed together as they took a sip. Looking forward was a part of the healing process, they would all agree, as they all still very much carried a lot of hurt and sadness in their hearts. The past will forever be part of them, and all the people who had shaped it along the way, but they also needed to look into the future and give the best of themselves. 

And then as if a strange tornado passed through, a window opened widely, and all of them tirned stunned for a milisecond looking at it, till Caroline whizzed over to shut it. It was a perfect Indian summer afternoon, so it was unusual that it opened so violently.

"That was weird"- Elena said-"magic?"

"I didn't sense anything"- Bonnie said.

"Anyway, I am going to check on the girls"- Alaric said walking up to the bedroom upstairs. 

"Ok. I am going down to meet the new MD that will take over my dad's practice."- Elena said.

"OMG- look at us"- Caroline now said-"you starting a new practice. Us, the private school. I never thought- anything like this would ever happen"

"The way thing looked the last few years- it was far from anything like that"- Bonnie said remembering all they've been through since Elena was put to sleep.

"All is so- unbelievable"- Elena said-"right- I got to go. I'll be late."

Bonnie left to her room, to prepare for the classes and work on her psychology degree. Her heart was all jumbled up, as it was toiled with a certain past, she had shoved away deep down in a box she had shut- so she thought. She took her phone and opened the contact list- and scrolled down to the letter D- 

Flashback

The night before Damon set off, outside Boarding House

"So, this time I am saying goodbye"- he said to Bonnie as she came out of the house.

"Yeah. You've learned something along the way."- the witch said in her dear way still with a whiff of a scolding in the tone of voice-"Are you ok- I mean- it's not easy after all this time- and just so you know- too many pancakes is not good for you- you have to make sure your blood sugar is ok- you are after all 178 years old."

"Thank you for reminding me. Well, you call me- if - you know- madness starts."

"You just do your thing- and - you know - I will deal  with whatever madness comes our way- but I think we will be fine. The Bennetts made sure that this is a madness-free zone."- Bonnie said.

And Damon got into his car and drove off. Bonnie looked for a little while into the night. The exact same feeling she had once had as she had him beamed over from the fake world. Her heart ached to see him gone.

That same heart now played all that had happened with her and Damon, the tug of war it played forever when he was concerned.

In the study, Caroline now took the letter and looked at it as if it was a curse she would be unleashing. She took a deep breath and opened the letter

Downtown in Mystic Falls, Elena said goodbye to the woman, who was taking on the practice. 

The brunette then walked to her car and went to meet the realtor about a house. As she pulled up at the house and walked in through to the garden, she saw construction workers finishing a gazebo in the neighbouring garden. She stood for a while watching  them making the last finishes and her mind wondered off to a time long past.

In New Orleans

Klaus put his sickly daughter Hope into the car. Elijah looked at the amulet Vincent Griffith gave him.

"She has to go where the power lies to make her better."- the witch said-"where it all began. Where the Original magic lies."

"Mystic Falls. Always back to the same cursed place."- Klaus uttered now looking at his daughter who could barely breath. 

"Mystic Falls"- Elijah repeated pensively and then got into the car and the three of them took off to the magic central.
