The Groans of the walking dead like figures echoed through the building as they stumbled around looking for human flesh to satisfy their hunger for meat. All I could do was hide and pray to God the monsters won't find me. The groans kept echoing. My heart pounded like crazy, nearly trying to break through my chest, as I hold my gun tightly, getting it ready to shoot any monster that came near me. Blood trickled down my face from a cut on my forehead that stung like hell. I tried my best to ignore the pain. Fuck the pain. It won't kill you. It's just a cut. I tell myself over again in my mind. I close my eyes tightly only to open them to the sound of gun shots being fired and to the sound of a dying Infectedfalling to the ground.

"Good shot Ellie. You got that bastard right between the eyes." I hear a man's voice bounce off the walls of the building. I peak out from where I was hiding and I see a girl who was my age. Maybe a year younger standing beside a sixty year old man. Her beautiful brown hair was up in a ponytail. I stare at her. She turns and looks at me and I finally see her face. She had beautiful green eyes. Her face was covered in freckles. Her lips teased me by making my mouth water. On one eyebrow she had a scar. Holy shit she's beautiful! I blush deeply as the thought echoed in my head and rang through my ears. I go back to hiding, hoping she didn't see me. I started hearing footsteps getting closer. I close my eyes again. The footsteps stop and I open my eyes to see the girl standing in front of me with a gun pointed to my head. I blush deeper as I look at her.

"Who the fuck are you boy?" she asks me sharply. I tried to find the words that would not make me sound like a moron but, all I could do was stare and blush. "I asked you a question. Answer me now boy, or I will shoot your brains out!" The girl snaps. I hesitate on answering. "M.....my name's Kaleb. I'm seventeen years old. My family was killed by those things when I was 10. I've learned to live on my own for seven years." I tell her as I look down. The thoughts of my parent's death flashed through my mind and their screams echoed in my ears. I look back up and I see the girl take the gun away from my head. "You should find a group to survive with boy." The girl's voice softens as I notice the anger fade from her. Louder footsteps come near my hiding spot. The man looks at me and reaches for something in his pocket. My muscles tighten before the man hands me a towel. "Here kid, wipe the blood off your face." He tells me gently. I take the towel and I wipe the fresh blood away.

"My name's Ellie. And this guy beside me, is Joel." The girl tells me as she takes out a needle and a thread. She leans closer to me with the needle and thread ready to stitch up the wound. "Hold still. This might hurt a little." Ellie tells me as she gets ready to stitch up the bleeding cut. I let her stick the needle into my forehead. She finishes with the cut and she puts the thread and needle back into the first aid kit. Sure the stitches sting, but why should I care? "Would you like to come and stay with us, Kaleb?" Ellie asks with a smile on her face. "If it's ok with Joel." I respond. "It's fine by me kid. Just don't do anything you might regret doing." Joel tells me as he walks out of the building. Ellie sprints out of the building. I sprint after her.

After a few minuets, Ellie stops running but i couldn't stop. I skid past her and break through a window of another building. I lay on the ground. "Fuck. That hurt. I totally meant to do that." I say as I keep laying on the broken glass. I hear Ellie laugh before she helps me up. "You meant to do that? Or you wanted to do that?" she asks me as she chuckles. I smile with embarrassment before seeing a man with a gun looking at us. "Ellie, get behind me." I tell Ellie as I keep my eyes on the gun man. I reach for my gun that was in my pocket as I step in front of Ellie like a human shield. The gun man fires his gun and the bullet hits me right in the shoulder. "Shit." I hear Ellie say softly as she stayed behind me. I ignored the burning sensation the wound gave and aimed my gun at the man who seemed to be running towards me. I fire the gun and the bullet flies, hitting the man right in his left eye. The man fell to the ground and a pool of blood surrounded him. I turn to face Ellie. She looks at me with worry as she puts her hand on my shoulder. I clinch my teeth a bit as a jolt of pain runs through my body like a bullet train taking off at full speed. Ellie lifts up the bloody short sleeve shirt's sleeve. She looks at the wound but she notices a huge cut on my arm from when I had crashed through the window. Well, I guess you can call me a huge dumb ass when it comes to trying to impress a girl. God I'm such a moron. Your an idiot, Kaleb. Why would you let yourself get shot in the arm and not even dodge the damn bullet. Jeez you fucking moronic idiot! I think to myself as Ellie wipes away the blood on my arm caused by the cut from glass and the bullet wound.

"Tell me if it hurts ok, Kaleb?" She tells me softly as she wraps the wounds with bandages. "Sometimes I don't feel pain." I respond. She looks up at me and I blush as I see a sparkle in her eyes from the sun light hitting them. "You ok Kaleb? You seem to blush a lot." She asks me with curiosity. "Uh yeah I'm ok." I respond as I laugh nervously. The blush on my face grows darker and I try my best to not show it. Don't let her know that you like her. If you tell her she will think you're a complete douche and she will never hang out with you again. The words from my thoughts repeat themselves in my mind. Ellie lets go of my arm as Joel comes over. "Ellie, you ok? I heard gunshots. What happened?" Joel looks from Ellie to me and back to Ellie. "I'm fine Joel. Kaleb saw a gang member and he got shot in the shoulder. He saved my life by risking his. You should thank him old man." Ellie hugs me. "Thanks Kaleb." She whispers to me. I blush even deeper as I slowly hug her back. Ellie lets go of me and she starts to walk to the forest. Joel hits me hard on the back as a "thanks for taking a bullet for a girl" kind of hit that nearly knocks the breath out of me. Joel starts to follow Ellie. I hesitate before running to catch up to her. The pain from the cut on my arm faded and so did the bullet wound. I walked next to Ellie until we reached a shed in the forest that looked like it hadn't been touched by the storms. I stop walking and look at it with amazement. Dang this place is so frickin cool. I think to myself as Ellie walks inside. She comes back out with two axes. She hands one of the axes to me. "Wanna help me cut some firewood?" She asks me kindly.

"Sure. I'll help." I respond. I follow Ellie to a pile of wood and two tree trunks used for cutting them. I smile as Ellie looks at me and motions me over to one of the trunks. I walk over to her and she places a log on the trunk. "Good luck." She tells me as she walks over to the other trunk. I lift the ax high into the air and I bring it down fast, hearing the wood chop into two. Ok maybe I brought it down to hard cause the next thing I knew, the trunk was split into two as well. I look at Ellie and I see her chuckle. "Good job chopping the tree trunk into two." She says as she laughs. Well, I guess she likes me, but does she like me only as a friend? Should I tell her how I feel about her? I think to myself as she smiles at me with the most beautiful smile in the world. I rub the back of my neck as my face grew hot with embarrassment.

The sky grew darker after a long day of cutting wood. Ellie helps me carry the firewood back to camp. Once we get to camp, I set the wood down in a pile and Ellie does the same. She yawns as she sits down, leaning against the shed wall. I sit beside her. She leans her head on my shoulder and I slowly put my arm around her to keep her warm. Ellie falls asleep in my arm but, I try my best to stay awake, to make sure that no Infected or Hunters come close to this shed. I'd rather die than have Ellie and Joel get hurt or killed but, sadly I slowly drift off to sleep.
