Chapter 2: I Have To Save Her

The next day I woke up and noticed that Ellie had gotten up before me. I look around and I see her cleaning off a blade that had blood on it. She must have gone hunting. I think to myself.

"Your up. I thought you'd never wake up." Ellie tells me jokingly as she keeps cleaning the scarlet red blood off the shining silver blade. I smile as I blush slightly while rubbing the back of my neck.

"Where did you go that caused you to get blood on your blade?" I ask her with curiosity.

"I was out hunting do that we can eat" Ellie answers as she points to a dead deer that was in a pile with a rabbit and a squirrel. She smiles at me before walking over. She sits beside me and she wraps her arms around me in a hug. I blush even more as I lean in for a kiss. Ellie puts her hand on my mouth softly to stop me from kissing her. "Why are you trying to kiss me?" She asks as she moves her hand away from my mouth. I try to think of something to say but all I could say was "I think I have a cr......." I was cut off by Joel. "Ellie, good catch on the deer kiddo. Kaleb, you're awake. Finally." Joel chuckles as he walks over to us.

"Hey Joel. Found any infected lately? Or have you found any useful weapons we could use?" Ellie says as she looks at Joel. Joel laughs at the question as he takes off his backpack and pours all the weapons on the dusty ground. "Is that good enough for ya Ellie?" he asks with a smile. He looks at me and he puts his hand on my head. He messes up my hair playfully. I chuckle as he doe before feeling Ellie's lips press against my cheek.

"I can tell that that's what you wanted. Don't think I didn't notice that you have a crush on me boy." Ellie whispers in my ear as I blush even more. She stands up and walks into the shed. I place my hand on the cheek that Ellie had kissed me on. My face grew warm as I kept thinking about it. Does she like me back? Do I have a chance with her? Or is she just teasing me just for the fun of it? I think to myself. I stand up and head over to a tree that was near by. I jump to reach a branch and I climb up it. I sit on one of the branches and I sing softly a lullaby my mother had sang to me when I was young. I sang that song untill I heard the scamper of tiny paws and I look over to see a squirrel sitting next to me. I stab the squirrel and it falls to the ground leaving some of it's scarlet red blood on my knife. I watch the squirrel fall and I call Ellie over after climbing down from the tree.

"What do you need Kaleb?" she asks me after I pick up the squirrel. "I have a question for you but I'm not sure if I should ask it. Do you like me?" I ask her softly. "I like you as a frien......." Ellie was cut off after I got hit in the back of the head with a baseball bat. I lay on the ground and I try to reach for Ellie as I see two guys surround her. Her screams of fear echoed in my ears before I close my eyes. The next day I open my eyes and I stand up. I look around for Ellie. She was nowhere to be found. I call out her name with fear and worry until I see the baseball bat that had knocked me out when Ellie was taken. I pick the bat up and I see a name on it. Samuel. I clinch my teeth with rage as I break the bat with my knee. I had to find Ellie. I just had to. I head in the direction that Ellie and the two men had went hoping to find the men's hideout. His so called "Man Cave". I travel for days without rest and without eating or drinking and I finally come upon the sound of screaming. Ellie I think to myself as I run towards the building in a pit of rage and fury. I sneak into the building and I follow the sounds of Ellie's screams. I come upon an open door and I stay close to the wall as I peek into the room. I see Ellie in a cage with a man holding her arms behind her back.

"Let go of me you motherfucker!" I hear Elie yell at the man. I see her head hit the cage door as the man tries his best to shut her up. After one last blow to the head I see Ellie fall to the ground with a bleeding head wound. "Step away from the girl faggot breath!" I enter the room and the man looks at me."Well well well, looks like a boy hero has come to save his missing princess." The man taunts me. I stare at him with rage as he gets closer to me. I take my gaze away from the man as I look at Ellie who was looking at me with fear that I would get killed. The man grabs me by the throat and he pins me to the wall holding a knife close to my stomach. I never knew I was gonna die this way. I close my eyes and I wait for death to take a hold of me but I felt nothing. All I heard was the man screaming in pain and I open my eyes to see the man was on fire. I look at my hands with surprise to see flames glowing from them. I look at Ellie and i see that she was shocked and amazed at my power. The man keeps screaming until he burns to death. I run over to the body and I grab the key. I unlock Ellie's cage and I tell her to run. She runs out of the building as fast as she can. I hear more men running down the hall and I set the building ablaze. The men screamed in fear as I trap them in a room. I hear the wood crack and I run as fast as I can to the entrance. Once I reach the entrance I start to walk. I walk out of the building with no burns. I see Ellie on her knees staring at the building with a tear rolling down her cheek. I walk over to her and I bend down beside her. I kiss her cheek and she looks at me.

"Surprise" I say with a smile. She hugs me tightly "I was so scared that you had died in there, Kaleb. Please don't ever scare me again." She whispers in my ear. "I promise" I whisper back. Ellie stops hugging me and she stands up. I stand up as well and she grabs hold of my hand. I hear her chuckle as I blush slightly. We walk back to camp together. I knew I'd save her. I just knew it. I think to myself.
