Poppystem was in the medicine cat den, pacing around restlessly, seeming to have a lot on his mind. He decided to go out by the river to get some fresh air.

While drinking water, he heard a loud splash beside him, and noticed that an old, frail quail had plunged into the river, thrashing about helplessly as it got swept away by the current.

At first, Poppystem chose the ignore it, but the one of the quail's feathers drifted past him, causing him to shift his attention towards it. With horror, he watched as the quail feather got ripped into shred as it scratched above rocks.

He figured that it must be an omen from TwilightClan, their warrior ancestors, and concluded that it meant that Quailsplash, the deputy of BlizzardClan, must step down.
