In Arcadia people live under strict regulations. The government that took over after the old country fell apart is extremely cruel and controlling. There is a caste system formed by level of wealth and those at the bottom struggle the most. Every year the guards that patrol the city kidnap people to fight to the death and the easiest to catch are the ones at the bottom. Whoever is left standing in the morning gets to live and is moved up in the caste system. However, it's not only each other they have to worry about. Many of the guards join in on the man hunt.
One gaurd trains some of the children to compete, but when they are all drug in they have to consider why. Was he really helping them? Or was he just preparing for the most epic fight any of them had every experienced?
