Darkness Awaits
Part 1
Chapter 1
Escape
The night was consuming. The day was long and hard. I walk alone through the twisting turning path of woods leading me to an unknown destination. It was around midnight. It's the time of dark and death.
The wolves are out tonight. A howl ripples down my spine. Ones close, too close. I quicken my pace thriving to get out of the woods. I hear a snap of a stick behind me.
Oh crap!
I take off running as fast as I can so I can gain flight. The predator is gaining speed as well. It's getting closer and closer. I crouched and jumped.
Finally, I'm soaring through the sky. The wolves are down below me. I can hear them barking and howling at me. I race above the tips of the trees. I fly lower weaving through trees and branches just to tease them.
Chapter 2
Hiding
I landed with a crash. That's one thing I have to work on when it comes to flying.
I scurried behind the court yard's iron fence. Then I climbed up and over in one fluid motion, landing easily on my feet. I raced across the lawn gracefully, to the lattes under my bedroom balcony.
I pulled out my balcony door key and shoved the key ring into my mouth. I climbed up the lattes to my second-story bedroom balcony. When I got to the top I swung my leg over the railing and jumped down. I got to the door and unlocked it, happy to be home.
I hung up my coat and placed my black rhinestone studded boots into my closet and went into my dresser to get out my pajamas. I went into the bathroom and slipped into my pink silk button down t-shirt and matching shorts.
I open the bathroom door and Whiskers, my kitten is sitting there with a toy mouse in his mouth. I pick Whiskers up and carry him over to my bed and set him down on it. Then I get myself comfy under the covers, clap and out go the lights. Now, I'm off to dream land......
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.........................
Chapter 3
Changing
Waken up by my alarm clock again....ugh....It didn't help much that Whiskers was on my face and I had a mouth full of cat hair, blah.
I took a shower and got ready for my Saturday morning flight....
The sky was baby blue and full of big, puffy clouds. Perfect day for flying but tonight it's going to down pour, I can feel it. I was staring into the sky and thinking 'I know what I am and that's not a human. I am Melissa Cantell the Earth's Earth Goddess. I control all the five elements of the earth and I have my own special abilities I can bring fire, read minds, control emotions, make u feel pain, create an illusion in your eyes and it's so real you actually believe you're there.
I was soaring above a meadow of flower buds changing them as I flew over head. I land in the same way as always, a crash. I dusted myself off and stood up. I started to dance throughout the rest of the large meadow gracefully changing all the buds to blossoms. Watching the process is amazing. The buds petal elegantly pulling out of its bud and showing off its beautiful colors. Eventually, I reached the end of the meadow and morphed the last bud into a flower.
I set off flying to the next meadow ready to change winter to spring...
Chapter 4
Visitor
Later, that night I was walking through the woods observing my work. Then I hear a man's quiet voice behind me. They smell like a human. I quicken my pace to see if he's following me. Sure enough I hear a stick crack behind me. I walk a few more steps and let him get closer.
Rapidly I turn around and catch a glimpse of his face it read fear, shock, and oddly anticipation. He had golden brown hair, olive colored skin, mesmerizing hazel eyes, normal
weight, and an average height. At a normal rate I approach him.
"Hi!" I said sweetly.
"Hi! I'm mike and you are?" Mike said curiously.
"Melissa. So, what are you doing out here in the woods tonight?" I asked with a questioning look on my face.
"Exploring the area. I just moved here last weekend and we finished unpacking about an hour ago. I didn't think anyone else was going to be out here. So, I have to ask what are you doing out here tonight?" he replied.
"Just taking a shortcut home. I'm about a quarter mile away." I answered, wondering what he was going to say next.
"Really, I didn't think anyone lived in these woods. I'm sorry if I'm on your property. I'll leave if u would like?" Mike said.
"Oh no, don't worry about it at all. I don't mind. If you would like I'll show you how far these woods stretch out and where my house is?" I said.
"That would be great. Lead the way." he replied.
"Okay, follow me." So we set off through the woods to my house and on the way I bet I can find out more of why he was in the woods.
"Where did you and your family move from?" I asked as we got closer to the house. As soon as we go through this patch of brush my house will be in view.
"Chicago. We just moved to Darkville last weekend." He replied.
"Have you met anyone else in town yet?" I asked.
"Nope. Just you. I haven't gotten out of the house much this week." He answered.
"Who lives with you right now?" I questioned.
"My mom, my brother, Hunter and my sister, Ellen. My dad past away in a car accident 4 years ago."
"Oh, I'm sorry, Mike. Look, here we are." I say "Welcome to my home!"
"Wow! It's gorgeous. Can I see the inside? I don't want to be pushy but it's amazing on the outside and I want to see if it's just as wonderful on the inside." He gawked at the house in amazement.
"Sure but, only if you promise to stay for dinner so we can talk more." I requested.
"Sure. That would be cool." He agreed gladly.
