Chapter 10
Tonight
I walked through the woods searching for the light of Mike's small home, located in the Woods of Remembrance. I named it that because of all the things I remember doing in there. I remember the long, cold, dark, night walks I'd take. Although, I can control everything on this Earth I choose to let things take they're natural course. It's the way things were always suppose to be. That changed tonight.
Mike and I were taking a walk through the woods when we thought we heard something following us. I waited for a vision to come but none did until they were to close. Wolves, hundreds of them. Circling in on us. Teeth bared. Razor sharp, claws just waiting to pounce. Growling and coming closer and closer with every step.
Mike looks at me with fear in his eyes. He had no idea about the wolves. They're all midnight black and only come out once a month. When there was a full moon and of course that was tonight.
I snatched his hand and grasped it tightly. He might think I'm a freak after this and not like me anymore but at least he would be alive.
The Wolves were just about to pounce when I bent my knees and launched us into the air. A Wolf pounced and almost had my foot. Instead the tip of its nose skimmed the bottom of my sneaker. Beneath me I heard thousands of growls and snaps of teeth. I looked down and saw them jumping up at us. I picked up the speed and started flying to the roof balcony at my home. I slowed down as we became closer. I gently lowered us down onto our feet.
When both our feet were securely on the balcony I released his hand and took a peak at the expression upon his face. His eyes were wide, his face read shock, fear, disbelief, astonishment, surprise, and amazement. I stole a glance into his mind and what I saw was to be expected. His thoughts were, 'OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD!'
"You okay?" I asked
"What just happened?" he asked not answering my question.
"It's a really long story." I said
"Tell me it." he commanded
"Ok, but first answer me this. ARE YOU OK?" I said a bit louder than necessary
"I'm fine."
"Alright. Well first let me tell you this; I'm a Goddess. The Earth Goddess to correct. I'm not human. I'm an immortal meaning I have eternal life. I receive abilities or tasks for my birthday each year. The abilities are like flying, reading minds, bringing fire, and so on. Also I have the power to control all five of the Earth's elements. The tasks I have to do are like changing winter to spring, summer to fall, like changing each green leaf to an orange, yellow, or red one. Like opening each flower bud into full bloom. That kinda stuff."
"That seems like a lot of pressure," he said after a long break of silence
"Believe me, it is."
"Just a quick question. Are we still a couple?"
"If you're not scared off by my freakishness, then yes," I said smiling.
"You think you're gonna be able to get rid of me that easily? No way!" he said giving me that goofy smile I love and giving me a quick kiss.
