~Mia's POV
Carol drove the car away after I stepped out and closed the door. The clothes inside were going along with her. My sunglasses were in my hand and I put it in my hair as I started walking in no particular direction. In other words, as I walked in one direction (A/N see what I did there?), a girl in lazy Sunday clothes walked up to me with her hair in a messy bun, a tablet on her arm, and brown eyes came out and started walking alongside me.
"Have you found it yet?" I asked, my voice casually sweet.
"I'm sorry. We couldn't find it even though we pretty much threatened every gang out there. Then again, we don't know what 'it' is, so Mia if you told us what 'it' is, maybe we could see where it is hidden." Jennifer spoke with me cautiously in her patient voice while air quoting the 'it'.
"I already told you what 'it' is." I snapped, using air quotes to emphasise the 'it', mocking her in a way.
She flinched at my outburst.
"Sorry, it's just that. I don't feel safe being here and knowing that it's out there and someone took it makes me terrified. The power it has is indescribable and if someone uses it for bad or to harm someone, then the world is done for. Sorry for snapping at you." I sighed as I walked up the stairs leading to my room. Jennifer unlocked the door.
"It's all right. By the way, no one has been in here ever since you left. Of course, there was me and Jacqueline and some new girls you sent over but yeah....". I frowned.
New girls, when did I send- Oh yeah. Now I remember.
In case you're wondering, I pick up random people who need a new shot at life and take them under my wing or in my gang.
"So I take it, they are settled?" I spoke softly as I sat down in the comfortable armchair that was the best thing Jennifer and Jacqueline did for me.
"Send someone to get me a cup of tea and something to go with it in the treat category." I said to Jennifer, who nodded, her messy bun bouncing as she picked up her phone and texted to someone.
"So, anyone leave the gang?" I asked as Jennifer lounged on the armchair across from mine in front of the fireplace with the heater in it. My gang is one of the most feared gangs there are in the world and you would leave if you were targeted by people from enemy gangs. Everyone did hate Scarlet Gang.
"Yeah, a few people did. Didn't want to do it anymore because they were scared of what would happen to them. Idiots." She tsk-ed. I nodded in agreement. "We are keeping them safe and they don't even know." She supplied.
"Did you provide for them after they left, though?" I inquired as I looked at her.
"Yes, houses, necessities, a new person in the family, the usual." She stifled a yawn.
You might be wondering, what the heck am I doing, giving people who left the gang a home and all that stuff? The thing is, I am really a kind-hearted person and everyone else just overlooks me as some not so nice words but there are haters and there are idolisers. You have no idea how many recruits to my gang are people who idolisers.
"So have the ShapeShifters fit in at all?" I asked, tilting my head to the side.
"Yes, they actually have new families and homes and it's going really good for them." She looked at me.
"Why don't you go change into something comfortable and I'll go see if they have your food. Okay?" Jennifer asked as I nodded. I reluctantly got out of the armchair and started walking into the wardrobe. I selected my clothes, punk clothes complete with heeled boots, a spiked bracelet, a choker neckalace, a black shirt with a smiley face with 'X's as eyes and ripped jeans. I went into the bathroom and took a shower. I slipped into my clothes and went outside into the mini living room that I had. There was Jennifer sprawled across my bed, starfish style.
"Come on, you lazy oaf. Get up." I nudged her leg with my foot. She groaned and covered her face with her arm.
"Jennifer, get up." She groaned then got sat up.
She playfully glared at me while I raised my eyebrow at her, smirking a little.
"Lets go show you the newbies. After you eat something." She said sassily.
"Okay. Whatever you say, mom." That wiped the smile off of Jennifer's face. She scowled at me and I chuckled because Jennifer loathed being called Mom.
"Let's go eat, shall we?" I opened the door and pulled her outside into the living room.
"Oh, hey Catherine. Whatcha doing?" I asked as I looked at the brunette whise dyed blond hair was pulled back in a high pony that ended at her chest with teal eyes and a slim body that was sporting lazy day clothes. She gulped and that's when I noticed the ceumbs around her mouth. I looked down and I saw the tray of food that had crumbs and some cookies left on it while a cup stood next to a kettle of tea, a catcher of milk, and a minipot of sugar.
"Seriously?" I asked, raising my eyebrow as Jennifer slapped her forehead.
"I was hungry." Was her excuse, every single time. She ate so much and it never got on her body. In a way, she was kind of like the female version of Niall James Horan from One Direction.
"It's all right. Nice to see you too." She smiled wide as I hugged her. Jennifer just have her a side hug.
"I will eat a cookie. Is that okay?" I asked her with eyes widened to show 'terror'. Catherine rolled her eyes.
"Yes, you can. So when did you come? There were all sorts of rumors about you, ya know?" She pestered me. I poured myself a cup of tea, grabbed a cookie and we walked out, Jennifer at my right, Catherine at the my left.
Jennifer had her tablet in her hand and was tapping away at something."So the first newbies's name lives here." We stood in front of room B101 and Jennifer knocked on it. The door creaked open and a girl in her late teens opened the door. She had forest green eyes and curly brown hair that fell down her back in a cascade of natural curls.
"Hi, can we come in?" Jennifer asked cheerily, "There's someone wants to meet you and welcome you to the gang." She nodded her head toward me. The girl focused her piercing gaze on me and her jaw dropped. She opened the door and we came in.
"Do you want to sit down? I can pull up a chair if you need one." The girl said, nervousness obvious in her voice. She also kept twiddling her thumbs and nibbling on her lip. I handed her my cookie, which I didn't eat, as a joke. She gave me a questioning look, I nodded, she hesitated before taking it and nibbling on it like a rabbit with lettuce. It was cute to watch her nibble her fears away into small cookie crumbs.
"No, I am fine, I'll just sit on the floor." I said as I sat down cross-legged on a rug in front of the fireplace with a cheery fire hologram. She sat down across me with Jennifer next to me and Catherine chomping on another cookie from the plate she brought out of thin air.
How does this girl bring food out of thin air?
I will never know.
"So, what's your name?" I asked the girl, giving her a soft smile.
"My name is Danielle Patterson and you are Celaena Scarlett." She said Celaena Scarlett like it was a sacred prayer.
"Yup," I said, popping the 'p', "that's me. Celaena Scarlett, leader of the noble yet feared Scarlett gang." I mockingly bowed while still siting down.
"I'm confused, I thought Jennifer was the leader of the gang." Danielle asked, her eyes snapping to look at Jennifer.
"No, no. Lord no. Jennifer and Jaqcueline jut fill in for me when I am not here. So how long have you been here?" I asked, tilting my head to the side.
"Well, a few months actually. I didn't like how everyone just overlooked me. You know, gave me a glance then not give me another. No one really loved me except for my overprotective brother, Carl, really looked out for me but I wanted to learn how to fight and rebel against everything the organization that my brother worked for did." Those last words picqued my interest.
"What did they do?" I asked, dreading the answer.
"They are experimenting on ShapeShifters under the Vampire King's ruling." I ran my hands through my hair.
"Are you all right, Celaena?" Danielle asked tentatively.
"I'm fine. What does your brother do?" I asked, looking at her.
"He hacks into their databases and tries to find you. Finding you was their first priority, for some strange reason."
"What's the organization's name?"
"Um, the Protectors of the Weak. Why?"
"Oh wow. James, didn't know you could snoop that low. Bring the other new people here." I said the last sentence to Jennifer who nodded and tapped something on her tablet. Her phone rang. A picture of a brown haired girl with blue-green eyes and a smirk appeared below the name 'Jackie'.
"Hello?" Jennifer flinched as someone yelled into her ear. She held the phone away from her ear until we could hear it.
"Jacqueline, use your inside voice." Jennifer commanded.
"What? Oh my God, I'll tell her. Thanks."
"What happened?" I asked her.
She looked at me with this terrified look that I only saw that time after I saved her from her abusive relationship with her ex-boyfriend.
"There is some bad news."
"What? Just tell me any one."
"One, Jacqueline is being chased." She said, tapping at something on her tablet. What she saw caused her forehead to get a worried crease.
"And two?" I dreaded the answer.
"Two, the security's been breached." Jennifer looked me in the eye.
"That means-" she got interrupted. By me.
"They are coming here."----------------------------------------------
