At dinner, everyone was celebrating Victors return. Everyone was at their best, especially Bronwyn. She was over the moon that her brother was alive. "So, how long have I been away?" Asked Victor. "Over fifty under sixty." Answered Emma. "Fifty sixty what?" "Erm, well, years. Fifty to sixty years." Victor didn't seem to satisfied with this. "So, what did I miss apart from Abe leaving and Ari joining?" "Horace's dreams. Don't worry, the were all good. Mostly." Said Olive. "Fifty to sixty of my birthdays!" Exclaimed Claire, making everyone laugh.
"Right children, eat up. Then you must all go outside for the reset." Ordered Miss Peregrine. I gulped. So far, I had n attended any reset. Honestly, the thought of nearly being bombed scared me, so being made to go outside today wasn't exactly my dream idea of the perfect night. I wasn't planning on going anyway. I was going to save Millard. I just needed Enoch in board, just for a moment. I glanced at him. He saw me and I knew he knew what I wanted to do. He sighed and nodded but rolled his eyes at the same time. At least he was OK with me doing this.
When dinner was finished, the children got changed into warmer clothes whilst Enoch and I headed to Millard's room to do the deed I'd promised Hugh I'd do. Enoch brought up a dead Egyptian pharo (I can't spell it please tell me in the comments if you do so that I can change it) and placed it in Millard's body. Just like last time, he didn't lit his hand. Just like last time, my hand glowed. Just like last time, I caused an explosion. Enoch, after a while of waiting for Millard to wake, walked off to try and get outside in time for the reset. I stayed behind, gently stroking what I thought was his hair. Whatever it was, it fell like fluff wisps of hair from a big tangly mess. Then I felt a jolt into the bed. The cut went down and I felt a pair of arms fling themselves around me. I hugged Millard back. "Thank you." He whispered in my ear. I smiled and hugged him tighter. Then in stood up. I realised Millard was dangling off my neck and I laughed. "Get off me, Millard!" "Nope! Your not losing me that easily. Its fun, anyway." I laughed some more and began to walk away to the living room with Millard dangling from me. I place him on the sofa and brought him his night clothes from his bedroom.
A little while later, Miss Peregrine wandered in. "I thought I told you to come outside." She said in an annoyed, gravely voice. "But look, me and Enoch saved Millard!" "Yes, I can see that." Millard waved, or at least his shirt did. "Either way, you must learn not to disobey me like that, Miss Apiston. Tomorrow night, you will come. Ever since you came here you haven't seen a single reset. If you want to stay here, you see the reset. It's fine, you don't have to be scared." I blushed bright scarlet.
Then Miss Peregrine left and Millard turned to me. "Your afraid of the reset?" "Please don't tell anyone!" Millard's hand went on my shoulder. "Its OK. Everyone's afraid of something. I was afraid of heights, but then Olive floated me onto the roof when I lost my hat after playing frisbe with it with Hugh." I smiled at him. "But, how do I get over my fear? It took four children and a teacher to get me to go on the trap carriage to go on a school trip before in left home when I was twelve! And when we got there no one could get me off!" Millard laughed. "Sorry. But tomorrow I will help you get over your fear!" "Really?" "Totally!" "Thanks Millard!"
I couldn't help the feeling that Millard perhaps had a crush on me. So did Horace. But I was a lot older then them, and for them to be having a crush on me is just wrong. I thought about the peculiars who lived here. The only person I could see myself going out with was Victor, and yet I'd only just met him! I guess that's age difference though. He's twenty-one and I'm twenty. Works well I guess.
The following day hit like a thunder storm. I stared at my alarm clock and realised it was five in the morning. Turning to my calendar to keep track of the days, I saw that it was a very special day today. It was my birthday. I didn't particularly want to tell the other peculiars since we just met and I didn't want them thinking I was a stubborn pratt of something the day after Millard and Victor came back to life. I tried my hardest to fall back asleep but failed miserably. I ended up running quickly down the fall to get out the door. I had decided that, since it was my birthday, that I would go to the village. That was a big mistake.
I wandered through the boggy forest and through the cairn into the village. What I saw, heard, smelt and felt were all things I had her imagined. The first sound I heard was music, but not the typical run rabbit run rabbit run run run, but instead it was: Time was so so lean
When your only fifteen
Your were my September song
Summer lasted to long
I remember the chorus
They were singing it for us.
It was a rather odd sound, so I followed it through what was previously horses and trap carriages and what was now full of people wearing distorted clothes, like ones with no knees and others that completely had the bottom parts of their t-shirts missing. As I neared the sound, I found it was coming from an odd-shaped box in a circle, with a long rope connecting it to a wall. "Excuse me, but what is that?" I asked the nearest person, a girl whose top had lost it's bottom. I pointed at the box and she looked at me weirdly. "It's a CD player. What, where are you from? The nineteen eighties?" "More like the nineteen forties." I corrected her under my breath. It didn't stop her forming hearing me though. She simply just gave me another weird look and passed me a few golden circles. "You'll need these with your... Um... State of mind." She said. "What are they?" I asked. "I've just given you five pounds. Good bye now." And she headed in the opposite direction. I glanced at the five pounds. What were they used for? After a few hours of wondering round the little village, I went back to the cairn still with the five pounds. I intended on asking Millard, who knew everything, what they were and why people used them. "Where have you been?" Emma rushed into me and hugged my neck as I entered the front door. "You missed breakfast and everyone was worried about you!" "I went to the village. It was rather odd though. People wore ruined clothes and owned big round boxes playing music and use things like these. These are my five pounds." I showed her my five golden five pounds. Emma prodded them gently. "I think you passed through the time loop. How did you get to the village?" "I passed through the cairn." "Yep, you entered the time loop." She didn't seem to upset, just amazed that I had passed through the time loop and had not realised. I began to feel rather stupid and dumb.
I followed Emma to Miss Peregrines room. I knocked on the door three times before she answered. Hers eyes were large and bloodshot. She glared at me and slapped me round the face. "YOU STUPID, STUPID CHILD! YOU HAD US WORRIED SICK! I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR YOU SINCE FIVE THIRTY! YOU'VE BEEN OUT FOR THREE WHOLE HOURS! YOU ARE IN SO MUCH TROUBLE, YOUNG LADY! YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU PUT US THROUGH-" "I just wanted yo go into the village for my birthday!" I yelled. Miss Peregrine seemed rather taken aback. As did Emma. "I'll come for you, er, later. Bye, Ari." She muttered and quickly ran down the hall and up the stairs into the attic. Miss Peregrine motioned me into her room. "We need to talk."
