  You'll never escape us.

I woke panting, still shuddering fromy my recent nightmare. I looked outside, seeing nothing but black.

Why am I still afraid? It's the same nightmare I've had. Nothing but threatening voices.

The door opened revealing my mother.

My mother. Still good-looking even in her early forties.

Her red rosy skin, blonde curly hair, perfect blue eyes.

Wonder why I never got any of it. My features never matched with her.

Long black hair, pale white skin, deep black eyes.

"Selene, are you alright?" Her voice made me back to my senses.

"Yeah.  Yeah. It's just another nightmare ." I smiled at her reassuringly. She's too..... fragile. I never wanted to see her worry.

She smiled back. "Happy Sixteenth Birthday ,Selene" She murmured in a low, sweet voice.

She pulled something from her back pocket. In her left hand lies a small red box wrapped with black ribbon.

" Mom. I told you. No presents."

"Please. As a favor to me."

I snatched the box swiftly from her hand.

Amazement covered my eyes. A black diamond pendant was lain on red satin.

"Mom. This is priceless. How-how did you-?"

"Shhh. Just promise me you'll wear it."

"Why? Where did you get this?"

As far as I know we are facing financial problems. She won't have enough money to buy this for me, unless she....

    But she won't do it.

She hesitated to answer making me more suspicious.

"Actually, it's a gift" I relaxed my arms. At least it's not stolen or something. "from your father."

Fury urbaned my body. Father? I don't have a father! He's long dead for me!

"Please. Selene. I-I know, but please. Wear it.

"I won't! I would never wear something from a stupid monster who left us alone!"

Tears started to form in her eyes. I can't stand this. All the anger disappeared. She should not be hurt.

"I-I'm sorry, Mom. I just- just can't-"

She clutched my hand, closing my fists.

"Please Selene, please.Wear it. For me."

I can't understand her. How could she love someone who abandoned her. How?

I stood up away from her.

"I'm sorry. I really can't."

I turned my gaze away from her. I don't want to see her hurt for turning her gift down.

"Please Selene, you need it."

Need it? Is it that necessary? Like I'm gonna die if I don't wear it?

I was about to answer when I felt sudden dryness of my throat.

Thirst. But not the usual thirst. Not for water. Thirst for something I have no idea.

I was too dehydrated too move. My knees started shaking and my vision got blury. The next thing I knew, I was lying on the floor writhing in pain.

   "Selene!"

My mother kept shouting, but everything slowly turns black.

Something inside me wanted to come out. Something stronger than me. I kept shouting but I can't even hear my own voice.

Unanticipatedly, I felt sonething touch my neck. The necklace!

The agony started to get worse. I shouted and screamed with all my force. Why can't I see? Why is everything black? Get me out of here!

It felt like two strong forces fights inside me. Like fire and ice trying to defeat each other.

Different images started to emerge. Moon. Blood. Wolves. Dead People.Fire.

  Different scenes moving too quickly.

Me standing in front of a mirror, pale white humans with fury in their eyes, attacking wolves, burning battlefield, huge white wolf beside me.

  I shouted. Screamed for help.

I don't know what bothers me more. The physical agony I'm undergoing, or the unexplainable scenes that troubles my mind.

All of it lasted in a minute, but it almost felt like an hour, and everything went black.
