"I'm going to miss you, sweetie," My mother whispers as she combs through my hair with her fingers. I nod and focus on the wall behind her, trying to tune out her careless white lie.

"Okay, I know you're angry at me," She continues and folds her arms on her chest, "but I at least deserve a proper goodbye."

I chuckle as I turn around with one hand holding on to my carry-on, walking toward security. "Adeline!" My mom screams as I continued on walking away from her. I waited until she couldn't see my face to allow a tear to drop on my cheek.

"Ticket and passport, please," The middle-aged woman automatically held out her hand. I gave her what she asked for and looked past her to see a family of four taking off their shoes and placing them in trays. I smiled a little, watching how excited the little boy was to go on a plane.

"Ma'am," The security woman waved my ticket and passport by my hand. "Oh, thank you, sorry." I gently smiled at the resting-bitch face woman who didn't bother to exchange one back. "Next," she annoyingly said while I followed up behind a man and I'm assuming, his son. His son turned around and asked, "where are you going?"

"I'm going to New York, what about you?" I asked and smiled at the boy with pure happiness in his eyes. "Me and my daddy are going to Florida! How cool is that?" He jumped up and down and his father turned around and laughed at his boy, "Sorry, Jonah is super excited because it is his first plane ride."

"No need to apologize, I don't mind!" I laughed back while looking at the boy who ripped off his shoes and placed them in his tray. "Put your watch in there too, bud," His father pointed to Jonah's wrist. "Why?," the little boy asked.

"Well, you see those crazy machines? Those are called metal detectors and if you go through them with your watch on, it'll make this loud sound and those security officers will have to search you.'

"Oh, okay," he shrugged and took off his watch and placed it in the tray. He turned around to face me. "Where's your mommy or daddy?"

"Oh, um, t-they're in New York already." I claimed, which was true. My new family was there, waiting for their new daughter. "So why were you in Colorado?" As when I was about to come up a lie, it was his and his dad's turn to go through security."Come on, son," his dad placed his hand on Jonah's back and led him to the detector. As he went through first, I grabbed my tray and took off my shoes and earrings from five years ago that I never took out.

Going to a whole new city, new school, living in a new house with a new family made me want to cry for help. I wanted a new life. A life that consisted of love and not worrying about what meth head is with my mother.  I'm 17 years old, I shouldn't be saying goodbye to my real family, nor should anyone.

What was this family like? What if they hate me? What if I hate the school?

"Your turn, miss," an older man gestured me to walk through the machine. I nod and step through the tall machine. "You're good, ma'am, have a good night."

"You as well, thank you." I walked pass the short man to my tray to retrieve my shoes and carry-on, along with my ticket and passport. Once I got threw on my shoes and went to walk away, I saw Jonah holding his dad's hand. Once we made eye contact, his grinned and waved. I did the same and we went our separate ways.

I glanced down at my ticket to see what gate I'm going to. C63.

"Please make sure your seatbelts are fastened and tightened at the waist. We will be taking off in just a couple minutes, for now, look forward to see our air hostesses perform our emergency safety rules." I close my eyes and wait to feel the plane to move.

I prayed that no one had the seat next to me; that didn't last long. A girl who looked around my age with blonde hair smiled once she found her seat. She placed her backpack under the seat in front of her and put on her seatbelt. "Hi, I'm Aaliyah," she greeted me with a warm smile. "Nice to meet you, I'm Adeline."

"What a pretty name! You live in New York?"

"Um, yeah! I was visiting my aunt just for a couple days. You live in New York too?"

"No, I wish, though. I'm visiting my dad for a couple weeks since it's summer."

"Oh, nice!"

We clicked instantly. From then on, the flight didn't seem that long.

"Well, text me sometime! Maybe you and I can meet up at the cafe together," she offered as we walked out of the hallway connecting the plane and airport together. "Definitely! Wait, aren't you going to baggage claim?" I laughed wondering why we were ending the long conversation since we were going in the same direction.

"I am, but I'm stopping at the Dunkin Donuts first. Your girl need her coffee!"

"Oh my God," I laughed.

"Like I said, text me! It was so nice meeting you!"

"You as well. Bye!" I looked up at sign to see that Baggage Claim was up ahead. I sighed and continued walking through the gigantic crowd.

Luckily, it wasn't that far up from where my gate was. Since the luggage wasn't out yet, I sat my carry-on down next to me and checked my phone. Three missed calls from my mom. My real mom. And a text that wrote - "Let me know when you land pls"

I turned off my phone and shoved it in my back pocket.

Five minutes later, the luggage started to come around. I waited to see my suitcase and got shoved by two or three people who thought it was a race to grab their belongings. I saw mine and grabbed it and left the room.

Only one escalator was separating my new family and I. I only know my new mom's name. Nothing more. Guess I'll find out momentarily.
