"They're here," Leon warned, bringing his rifle to his shoulder. "Stay out of the shadows."
The air smelled like sulfur and a putrid mix of rotten flesh and ammonia. The bloodsucking, sun-hating, human-like monsters were lurking in the shadows. If one wasn't ready, the splash of your intestines spilling onto the ground was the first indication of their presence.
The pair of brothers stalked through the rocky ravine. The youngest brother, Henry, whispered,
This was the quickest route within the desert to the cities with food, water, and medicine. But the weather was sadistic and had a mind of its own.
Dark red clouds spread across the sky, inch by inch the sun retreated. Leon pressed an arm against Henry's chest shoving him back from the gaining shadows. Something behind them moved.
Leon turned to see dark skeletal figures emerging and rushing toward them.
