*Third Person's P.O.V.*
"Have you even talked to Bonnie?" Annabelle asked her blonde best friend as they and Elena walked on the school grounds. It was the morning of the first Monday after Thanksgiving break, and already all Annabelle could think about was going home. She didn't have a problem with school; she did, however, have a problem with not knowing whether Stefan killed his brother or not, and still not knowing how to control her powers and whether she would lose that control any time soon.
"No," Caroline replied in a 'duh' tone. "I'm mad at her. She needs to make the first move,"
"Be the bigger person," Elena said, tiredly, making the blonde scoff.
"Impossible in her presence,"
"Okay, I'm lost," Annabelle stated as she came to a halt, forcing her best friend and sister to do the same. "Why are you so pissed at her again?"
"She's a thief, that's why," Caroline said defensively as they resumed walking. "I gave her my necklace, and she refuses to give it back. It's a matter of principle,"
"Well, I hate to be the ever moral one, but you're really not supposed to ask someone to return something you gave them. Not borrowed; gave," Annabelle said, and Caroline simply responded with a glare, to which the brunette raised her hands. "Just saying,"
"Alright. Well, I tried. I'm officially out of it," Elena said.
"I second that," her sister added, raising her hand.
"Good," Caroline smiled before turning to look at the older twin. "Your turn. Where's Stefan? Have you talked to him?"
"He's avoiding me," Elena replied, the relaxed look on her face turning into a frown.
"Why?"
"It's complicated," Elena answered vaguely as Annabelle bit her lip and tried to look at anything or anyone but her best friend. She had honestly thought that the longer she was forced to keep all the secrets from Caroline, the easier it would get, but she was proven wrong time and time again, "I'll see you later," Elena spoke up again as the bell rang, before walking away from the two girls.
"Bye," Caroline waved, smiling.
"I gotta go, too," Annabelle spoke up, just as Matt appeared in their line of vision.
"Hey," he greeted them, offering a small smile as he walked past them.
"Hey," Caroline and Annabelle both greeted him in return, though the brunette spotted an obvious frown of disappointment on Caroline's face.
"You okay?" she asked concernedly, making Caroline snap out of whatever daze she was in.
"Yeah,"
"You sure?" Annabelle kept going, unconvinced.
"Yeah, I'm fine," Caroline tried to reassure once again, offering her best friend the most convincing smile she could master.
"Okay," the brunette nodded, though still unconvinced. "Alright, I'll see you later, okay?"
"See ya," Caroline waved, and Annabelle offered her one last smile before quickly walking into the building and rushing towards her history class, wondering who the substitute will be this time. Instead of having just one substitute over the past two months to keep some sort of stability in the class, the school had decided to throw in a new one almost every single day. At this point, Annabelle's brain was so jumbled up, she couldn't connect a single face to a single name if her life depended on it.
