Tyler's feet flew up as the swing he was on reached its peak and nearly threw him flying off yet again. He reached one hand out towards the sun in front of him, as though if he tried hard enough he could reach out and touch it, but was flung backwards by gravity and forced to sit back and watch as Josh made an attempt on his own swing before he could try again. As always, the other boy couldn't get to it, and now it was once again Tyler's turn to fly up towards the bright, burning orb.
After another little while of flying back and forth, trying to go as high as they could and laughing as they pulled faces every time they passed each other, Tyler and Josh decided to go play on the playground. Tyler lowered his feet to drag across the ground and slow him to a halt, while Josh waited until the swing was at its highest point and jumped off, just barely landing on his feet. Tyler grabbed him around the waist before he could fall completely and, once he had recovered from the near incident, they went over to the playground.
"Race you there!" Josh yelled once they were halfway, already taking off at a full sprint.
"Not fair!" Tyler yelled, running after him in an attempt to catch up, even though he knew it was futile. He was proven correct when Josh smacked the top of the slide victoriously and stood there smirking as Tyler finished running there.
"You... got a... head start. Not... fair," he panted.
"Well, maybe if you had been faster, you would have caught up," Josh told him, sticking his tongue out and beginning to climb the ladder to the top of the playground.
Unable to think of a comeback, Tyler sighed and climbed up behind him. Already, Josh was perched at the top of the slide, ready to go down.
"Coming Ty?"
"What? Together?"
"Sure, why not," Josh shrugged, patting the space behind him. Awkwardly, Tyler sat down and scooted up behind his friend.
"Ready?" Josh asked.
Tyler nodded, before remembering Josh couldn't see behind himself, and said, "ready." With that, he pushed off down the slide, Tyler gripping the boy's shoulders the whole way down in case he fell. Once at the bottom, Josh turned and smiled at him.
"That was fun," he said simply. Tyler absentmindedly nodded, staring into the distance at a few older kids playing on the monkey bars. Josh noticed this and followed his gaze.
"Monkey bars? They seem fun. I don't know if we're allowed on them though," he frowned. "Wanna go anyway?" he asked excitedly, turning back to the nervous young boy still seated behind him at the end of the slide.
"I-I mean, I guess we-" Tyler was cut off as Josh grabbed his arm and yanked him over to the now abandoned monkey bars. Josh rapidly climbed to the top and wrapped his small fingers around the first bar. Only now did he begin to look slightly nervous, but scrunched his face in concentration and determination as he flung himself forwards off the ladder, now only suspended by one hand. He quickly realized he would need a second one to stay up, so lifted his other hand to the next bar. One at a time, he moved his hands from bar to bar, and made it across four or five of them before his arms gave out and he fell to the ground, luckily landing on his feet.
"Your turn," he said, straightening up and smiling at Tyler, who stared at the monkey bars nervously for a moment before hesitantly nodding and taking a few steps toward them.
Before he knew it, Tyler was already at the top of the ladder with one hand gripping the first bar. Josh stood below him, smiling and cheering him on. The fact that his friend seemed so confident in his ability to cross the monkey bars gave Tyler the last bit of courage he needed to grip the next rung and jump away from the safety of the ladder.
With Josh still cheering below him, he scrunched his face in determination and made it across two more bars.
It was then that he made the mistake of looking down. Tyler's stomach felt like it had flipped over a good dozen times, and the ground was actually spinning slightly as his breathing increased. Below him, Josh was still clapping and shouting encouraging things at him, but it sounded like his voice was much farther away. Without realizing what was happening, Tyler's hands went limp and slid off the bar he was hanging on to, sending him falling to the ground.
As soon as he fell, Josh was by his side, eyes filled with concern as he shook Tyler's shoulder and asked over and over if he was okay.
As soon as Tyler was lucid enough to realize what had happened, he started crying.
"What's wrong?" asked a very worried Josh.
"M-my leg," he explained through his sobs. "I-I landed o-on my leg and n-now it... it hurts." He wrapped his arms around Josh and continued crying, most likely leaving a stain on the boys shirt, but he didn't really care.
Josh looked at his crying friend and thought for a moment.
"I know!" he said after a few minutes, and pulled Tyler away so he could look him in the eyes. "Roll up your pant leg, I know how to help." Tyler obliged and sat there expectantly, waiting for Josh to fix his injury.
Josh moved closer and cleared some of the dirt off the cut on Tyler's leg while explaining, "whenever I get hurt, my mommy kisses it better, then takes me to a doctor." He frowned. "We don't have a doctor. But I'm sure just the kiss will do," he smiled again. "Ready?"
Tyler nodded, his eyes wide. Josh then proceeded to bend over his friend's leg and place his tiny pink lips around the cut on Tyler's leg. After a moment, he sat back up and looked at him hopefully.
"Did it work?"
Tyler giggled and nodded his head, making Josh smile. "Good," he said. He then looked back up at the monkey bars and frowned, before his expression changed back to one of excitement as he asked Tyler, "wanna try again?"
A/N Welcome to yet another fanfiction inspired by Obsessed_With_Larry (and by that I mean she gave me the whole idea and I just wrote it, because I'm not creative). Most chapters have been prewritten, so there shouldn't be too much waiting (hopefully). Also, just to let everyone know, chapter titles are their ages. Anyway, hope you all enjoy.
