Destiny
Two days until my eighteenth birthday and one week until the yearly mating chase that I am forced to join. I am so not happy. I just graduated high school, top of my class at that and now I am going to have to become the happy housewife. I feel sorry for the Male that catches me, because I am not going to be the 'little woman'. I am a warrior, that's what I was born and trained to be and I will be damned if some stupid, bull headed, overgrown, bully is going to make me into one of those weak women that can't do a damned thing for themselves.
Right now I am just rolling out of bed, before dawn, to go for a run before Dad and I spar. This has been an everyday occurrence for my entire life. My Dad is the Master of Arms for our pack, Mom's a warrior as well and that is what I am going to be. I grumble to myself throughout my entire run, three miles in my skin then, five miles in fur. My wolf and I agree, this is the best time of the day. I shift back as I reach the backyard and see my Father standing there with clothes in hand and a smirk on his face.
"Ok, get dressed then meet me in the ring." He says before jogging to the sparring ring Dad set up in the backyard. I shift back and throw on my clothes before following him. Dad's ass was in the dirt three out of five times today, I felt good. "You are doing so much better, I'm proud of you, Destiny. I know that you aren't crazy about the chase, but that's how I met your Mother and we love each other very much. Trust me, I'm not happy about seeing you go, but the law is the law. I just hope you don't go far." I sigh, the chase is a regional event, I could go anywhere within three states, even Canada. We live in the forests of Oregon and I love it here, but I could end up in fucking Alaska or something. Fuck that. I met my Dad's icy blue eyes and smile, "No dickhead is going to drag me all over the place. If he lives too far, he better be ready to move. This is my home and I am not leaving it."
Dad chuckles, "You say that like you mean it, D." I quirk an eyebrow, "Oh, I do." He pats me on the back as my Mom walks out the door, "OK, you too, time for breakfast. Move your asses. D, you have to attend a pack meeting with the others going next week." I groan and follow Dad into the house. Mom has the table piled high with food, we are wolves after all. After a huge breakfast of pancakes, eggs, and bacon, I take off towards the pack house. There is a buzz in the air, excitement for the chase. I roll my eyes, they are all happy, but me. "Hey there, D!" I hear my best friend, Corey call out. He is joining the chase this year too, but he's gay, so they have a separate race for them. Corey is hot, tall, lean muscle, like a swimmer, blonde curly hair, green eyes, and a killer smile. Me, I'm plain as can be, I'm short, like five foot tall, long strawberry blonde hair that's straight as a stick, large ice blue eyes, but I'm fit, I even have a six pack.
"Hey, Corey. Everyone seems to be excited for next week." He wiggles his eyebrows at me, "Oh hell yes. I can't wait to find my mate." I grunt and he laughs, "Such a lady." I snarl at him, "Suck a dick." He laughs, "After next week, I will." I fake vomit, "Dude, no." He laughs as we walk into the pack house, where Alpha Kane is waiting for us. There is a group of about ten of us going next week, mostly females. Britany is the biggest slut and the one making a big scene about finding her mate right now. "I bet I land an Alpha. I am the best this pack has to offer." Did I mention that she is the Alpha's daughter? I roll my eyes and whisper to Corey, "Can you run if you are flat on your back?" He snorts and all eyes whip to us.
Alpha Kane smiles at me, he is my Dad's best friend and has had a hand in my training since I was little. "Destiny! Good, you are here, we can get started. Now, everyone take a seat. As you all know the Mating Chase is held once a year and is a big deal for us shifters. This year, the King himself is coming and will be watching so I expect you all to be on your best behavior. I know that you are all excited but remember, your actions reflect on our pack. I am sorry to see that so many will be leaving this year, since most of you are female, but remember, be strong and true and you will be happy. Give it your best so that the male that catches you is properly suited to you and those of you who are males, don't just catch the first female you find, run until you can't go anymore and at the end of the day, you will end up with the best female. As far as location, I received the letter this morning, we are having the chase at a pack about a hundred miles from here, so we need to leave in three days to make it in time for registration. Make sure you are fully packed, but only take one suitcase. everything else will be delivered to your new home. You are dismissed."
I sighed as I left the pack house. Corey put an arm around my shoulders, "Don't worry, D. I will find you, you are my best friend and nothing is going to change that." I nodded and felt the tears threaten to fall. I quickly shifted and ran home, Corey on my heels. We crashed through the front door and into my room, before I shifted back and cried like a baby in Corey's arms. Mom and Dad came in and we told them what the Alpha had told us, they cried with us. Three days before I had to leave the only home I had ever known.
