Kevin rolled his shopping cart down the snack aisle. "Brownies or sweet rolls?" He thought to himself. He raised his pointer finger and pointed it at each sweet individually. He smiled. "Brownies. Love me some brownies." He tossed the box in the buggie.
An old man approached. "Didn't you hear? World's ending. Shouldn't you be with your family, son?"
Kevin looked up. "World's ending?"
The old man nodded solemnly. Kevin lowered his head. He started to twitch.
The old man looked concerned. "Son, how are you holding up." Kevin punched a shelf. "Goddamn it! I'm gonna miss the next episode of Zombie Drama!" The old man fell to the ground holding his left arm. He gasped for air, as he lied twitching on the ground.
Kevin glanced at the man. "I'm sorry for losing my temper but I really must be going. Must be a comfortable floor for you to lie there like that."
Kevin walked up to the ten items or less line. He waited there with his two boxes of deluxe sized fudge brownies containing six brownies each. He looked around. No cashier in sight. "Are you guys on break?" He yelled. His voice echoed but was heard by no one. He glanced around again. "I'll just use the self check out!"
Kevin removed a brownie from the box, and took a bite as he attempted to work the self check out. "Please scan your item." Kevin clumsily scanned the box twice while holding his brownie. "Please swipe your card." He reached into his pocket and pulled out his wallet. The half eaten brownie fell to the floor. Kevin glanced at the brownie.
He walked back down the snack aisle, and grabbed another box of brownies before returning to the self checkout. He scanned the last of his boxes and swiped his card. "Sorry, please try again." Kevin swiped his card again. "Sorry, please try again." Kevin wiped his card on his pant and swiped again. "Error, please see the manager." Kevin looked around. The store was completely empty except for the corpse of an old man that used to have heart problems. No one was watching. Kevin pulled out another brownie and approached the store exit.
He opened the door, and walked out before tossing an empty brownie box behind him. He looked around at the empty parking lot and then up at the sky. Kevin saw the approaching asteroid and took out another brownie. He looked down at it.
The multi-colored chocolate sprinkles were glowing. Kevin felt different about this brownie. Instead of putting it in his mouth, he pointed it at the asteroid. A burst of energy erupted into the sky and disintegrated the asteroid. Kevin stood in awe at the amazing feat he had just accomplished. And then he took a bite of the brownie.
