Percy didn't want to go to summer camp.
Summer camp is such a little kid thing, not something for a crown prince demigod. The problem is, his dad, Poseidon (who is the extremely powerful Greek god of the sea), is forcing him to. So now Percy "wants" to go to summer camp. Percy didn't want to go alone so he convinced his uncle, Zeus the King of the gods and god of the sky, to send his son, Jason, to camp with Percy. At least they can be miserable together.

Maybe some more background is needed.

Percy lives in Corinth with his father, mother (Sally), and half-brother (Tyson). He is the crown prince of Corinth. Being crown prince for Percy isn't much different than being a normal prince because since his dad is a god, he will never die which means Percy will never become king of Corinth. However, being crown prince does have some benefits. Percy gets to rule when his father is away, and he rarely gets punished for causing trouble. Oh, and Percy is quite the troublemaker. This is why his dad is sending him to Camp Half-Blood. He's hoping Percy will learn some discipline and responsibility.

Jason lives in Olympia with his father and sister, Thalia. Thalia is the crown princess so Jason is just a normal prince. Corinth and Olympia are just a few hours away so Jason and Percy are able to visit each other often. Percy and Jason are best friends and do almost everything together.

So! Back to the story.

Jason and Thalia are currently in Corinth because they usually spend their summers in Corinth with Percy. Since the boys are going to Camp Half-Blood, Thalia decided to go too. Tyson wanted to go, but since he was doing so well with his blacksmith apprenticeship, Poseidon wanted him to stay and continue his good work.
As the time to go to camp draws nearer, Percy learned more about the camp and became a bit more excited.

"Percy, I don't understand why you are getting so excited about this camp," says Jason as the boys pack their bags.

"There are going to be other demigods there, Jason!" exclaims Percy from his closet.

"But there are demigods everywhere. The gods aren't very good at keeping it in their pants, you know," Jason points out.

"I mean, powerful demigods like you and me. Ones officially claimed by their parents. Mostly princes and princesses and stuff," Percy replies.

"I guess that will be interesting. Maybe we will meet some girls. My dad has started pressuring me to find an important princess to get married to. This could be as good a place as any."

Percy flops on his bed and groans. "Jason, why do you always think about what your father wants from you? You don't have to please him with everything you do."

Jason rolls his eyes and says, "You're one to talk. You are always in trouble with your dad for something you did or did not do. This is the reason you're being sent to this camp! You need to grow up, Percy!"

Percy huffs and crosses his arms. "Whatever."

"I'm just saying, if you caused a little less trouble, your dad would trust you with more of his kingdom."

"I just want him to think of me as not old enough to get married. I know he wants to force me into an arranged marriage sometime soon so how else can I avoid that?"

"That's actually a really good point. Maybe I should try that," Jason laughs.

Percy smirks. "Yeah, well. I don't think we can back out of going to camp now so let's hit the road."

Jason grabs his bags and heads to the door. "Last one to the carriage has to sit next to Thalia!"
