I didn't want to believe it. It had been atleast a week and a half since i had heard about my mother and i still didn't want to accept it. Nightmares haunted me night after night as I thought about the Latino woman that raised me from birth. The woman who I saw as invincble and that nothing could kill her. I guess I was wrong.
Moani laid sleep beside me.Occasionally, shifting and mumbling about Harry Styles in her sleep. I'd shake my head and smile faintly then run a hand through her hair, pulling it back from her face. I yawned and glanced at my phone that would randomly flash the time across the screen. Seven thirty. It was a saturday.
I slowly climbed out of bed and walked down the hall towards the stairs my arms wraped around my torso as I rubbed them slightly, taking the chill off. I walked past my sister and my Mother's respective rooms and sighed before feeling a tear rush down my face.
That's when I heard it. The sound of movement downstairs. Walking, boots colliding with the hardwood floor down stairs. I reached into the closet and looked up on the highest shelf. that's where I saw it. A black box, metalic.
I fumbled around with the key that sat in the little wooden drawer adjacent to where I stood and unlocked the case. Inside revealed something I wasn't allowed to have until my eighteenth birthday. A semi automatic pistol. Or in the wrods of my now deceased mother the Desert Rose. It was a desert eagle that was givien to her when she moved into this neighborhood.
I shook the thoughts from my head and sighed faintly. I loaded the gun and heard the subtle click that mean it was ready. I amde my way down the stairs. The footsteps sounded to be in the kitchen. I leaned against the wall that made up what could've been the door and quickly turned with the gun aimed.
"I advise you tell me what you're doing in my hosue." I demanded the figure. It turned to face me. I kept the gun aimed for his head once I realized that it was a man. His face seemed to be an even more eldered version of my own. The same heart shaped face and the defiant nose that stood out.
The dark brown eyes that I had seen for years in my little sister. That crooked smile which became my signature was now stretched across this man. But unlike mine his lips were fuller more distinct and darker. his skin was a deep caramel color with random freckles appearing every s often through out his appearance. His hair was longer than mine and was twisted into dreadlocks that surrounded his face. The dark chocolate color of his hair seemed to grow brighter as he raised his hands and flicked the lights on.
"How long has it been Travis?" He asked me. Our eyes connecting as we stood on the same level me being mayb a fourth of an inch taller than him.
"Four years since you left us. 9 years since you started doing what it is you're doing." I shifted my gaze away from him and looked to the brown bag that sat upon the counter. I averted my gaze abck to him. "What's in the bag?"
"It's nothi-"
"What's in the fucking bag!" I aimed the gun at him again this time my hand cocking the hammer that sat on the butt of the gun.
"May I?" He asked before I nodded. His thick jamaican accent hanging in his voice as he opened the bag and pulled out a container full of what looked to be a white powder.
"What the fuck is that?"
He smiled and again gave me the crooked grin. "Cocaine my boy. I told your mother to hold onto this until I needed it and well you see that plan as gone to shits now hasn't it?" He asked as I placed my hand on the trigger.
"Why are you here?" I asked him. I knew my mother use to be apart of his little drug ring but I didn't know how deep she was in. I held my composure as i tried to read this mans face. The care in his eyes caught me off guard.
I raised a brow as a quizzival look became apparant on ym face. I knew what kind of work my father was into. He was possibly the most power King Pin in the state amybe even the country. He sold everything from Crystal meth to Ecstacy to LSD and more. He had different associates through out the country that much was true but I didn't know how far he was spread out.
"I've come to give my condolensces." He finally said. i could tell by the look in his e7es that he was pondering something to keep me from unloading a clip of lead into his chest.
"Bullshit. Why are you really here?"
"I've come to make you an offer. You need the money and I need a worker. Someone that I can trust." he said and I lowered the gun. I would need the money if I wanted to maintain this house.
"What's the job?" I asked him with out hesitaion. when he was still living with us. I'd make little runs for him to the neighbors and drop off whaat they needed in exchange he gave me the little bits of money he made and Let me buy ice cream so I had an idea of what I had to do.
"I need this delivered to a client in Brooklyn." I nodded and asked for the bag. "The price is set at six hundred fifty." He added and I nodded again."You go heat?" he asked reffering to the gun in my hand. I nodded a third time.
"I need a car." he smiled before tossing me the keys he held in his hands.
"I want ten precent of what you make so basically I want sixtey-five dollars out of it." I rolled my eyes and turned on ym heel.
I paused in the door way and fired the gun the sound of the firing rang in the air and he looked in shock. "I would've shot you in a heartbeat." I said pointing to the bullet wound in the wall. "Now get out of my house." I ordered and looked to him with my eyes narrowed.
I walked from the kitchen with the keys, gun, and paperbag in hand and made my way up the stairs. Moments later the front door shut and locked. I reached for the holsters that sat hidden in the closet and Pulled int on. I sighed strapping the gun into the space in the back of it.
"Who was that?" Moani asked me as she laid there twisted up in the blankets.
"It was my dad." I said as i kept the paper abg behind my back and I quikly moved to ym closet before stuffing the paperbag into a bookbag and slipped the hsoters off and hung it up.
"What did he want?" A quizzical look forming on her face and she sat up keeping the blanket wrapped around her. I smiled and sat down on the bed before feeling her arms around my torso.
"He needs me to make a delivery for him." I statued bluntly with a shrugg. "I need the money and he knows that." I felt her lips on ym cheek and smiled faintly again.
"I don't approve of this Hunny. I don't want you getting involved in this mess. But it's your choice. Just stay safe for me." She kissed my neck softly and then my shoulder. I felt a shiver run down ym spine at the feeling of her lips against ym skin.
"I love you bunny." I said and she smirked before, wrapping her arms around my waist
"I love you too Hunny." I smiled before standing.
Things were really about to become interesting.
