Taking a Break

I drove on the road for several hours. During that time Jake had fallen back asleep, and Lil' Seb was shut down so he could recharge. I remained awake, although I was beginning to get droopy. Sure it was almost noon, but I literally got no sleep the night before because I woke up extremely early so that I could get everything out of that hell hole that used to be my job place.

I drive into a small town and park into the parking lot of a motel. The motel looked surprisingly nice, so I decided we could stay here. I turned Lil' Seb back on and shook Jake to wake him up.

"Jake. Jake. Wake up."

"H... huh?? Wh.. what time is I... it...?"

"It's noon right now. Here. Wear this. We're going into public so you need something to hide those ears of yours."

To his confusion, I hand him a grey base ball cap I happened to own. It was from a big "hat phase" I had when I was younger... heheh. He put the hat on to hide his ears and he wrapped his tail around his waist like a big fluffy belt.

"Do you think this... would work?" he asked as he yawned.

"I'd say it should. It isn't too weird to have a fluffy belt. At least I think so."

"Alrighty then..."

He yawned again as we all got out of the car and headed into the front counter at the motel. I paid enough for a one night's stay and went into the room we got. The room was small, but it wasn't too closed in. There was one big bed, a couch, a small TV, a dresser, and a bedside table with one lamp. Like I said, this room isn't the biggest, but it sure as hell is a lot better than Jake's shitty "room" at the lab.

"woah... a bed..." Jake said as he flopped onto the bed and immediately wrapped himself up in the blanket, almost like a burrito.

I almost had a heart attack from how cute that was.

"Okay so I'm gonna leave for a sec to get some food from the diner across the street. What would you like? I'd say they have burgers, fries, and all those other typical fast food stuff."

"F... food? Like... real food...?"

"Yes. Real food. Burgers are a thousand times better than any of the crap you ate in the lab. So do you want a burger or two or nah?"

Jake  became quiet and shyly nodded.

 I chuckled and patted his head before exiting the room and heading towards the diner. Once inside, I bought a few burgers and fries for him and me to share together. I paid for the food and walked back into our room, only to find that Jake was asleep again. I closed the door, sat the food down, and sat on the bed next to Jake. Lil' Seb was just sitting on the couch kicking his tiny feet. I looked at Jake and saw how peaceful he looked. I guess he hasn't slept this well in ages... Poor guy...

I pet his head gently and hummed a bit, then I eventually laid down next to Jake and fell asleep. I sure needed that nap too.

As I slept I started dreaming about me and Jake...

I woke up to the sound of munching right next to me. I rubbed my eyes and got up, then looked beside me to see that Jake was digging in to one of the burgers. He munched it fast, then paused and blushed when he noticed me wake up.

"Wh... what?"

He looked at me with his grumpy-ish expression. I guess I was staring at him.

"Nothing..." I yawned. "You just seem to be enjoying that burger quite a bit."

"W... well I mean it is quite in fact delicious but um that is none of your business!"

"Sheesh okay princess I'll give you tour space."

"hmph!"

He pouted then resumed to devouring his burger, then moved on to his fries.

It was a little gross, but it was pretty cute, too.

I decided to munch on my now-cold burger, and as I was munching I noticed that Lil' Seb wasn't in the room.

"Hey, Jake. Where did Lil' Seb go?"

"How should I know??"

I stared at him.

"Oh fine... he pointed at your vehicle through the window then left the room. I think he was signaling me that he'll be there."

"Hm. Thanks, Jake."

I patted his head and he blushed and shooed my hand away. I chuckled and moved my hand away in response.

"There's no need to be so cold to me man. I'm just being friendly."

"W... Well there is no need for c... companionship right now!"

"Dude friendship is fucking magical. It can help you so much in life."

"Well not at this moment!"

He turned away from me and I sighed. I guess it makes sense for him to be a little grouchy. He WAS trapped in an evil lap for a long time with very untrustworthy people. It'll take a pretty long time for him to fully trust me. I bet he has quite the amount of doubt right now. I'll make sure that he'll trust me soon though. Since... well... like I said before...

I'm here to protect him.

Nobody is gonna stop me from doing so.
