"...So they called me over the floo, and here we are."
Fred had just finished explaining to me how he had survived the terrible blast all those years ago. He had to make everyone, except the Weasleys of course, believe he had died that day. He had to hide from the rest of the deatheaters and the ministry.
"I still don't understand. Why didn't you come out of hiding after Harry killed Voldemort? Why did you keep it a secret from me? I thought you were dead. For three years, Fred!"
"I know, and I'm so sorry. I know I should have told you. Its just that I was scared."
"Scared?! Of what? Voldemort is gone! The deatheaters are gone! The wars over."
He didn't say anything for a while, but then he took both of my hands and looked me in the eyes. I shifted uncomfortably under the silence of it all.
"What is it?" I pressed on. "It's okay, you can tell me, Fred."
"I was afraid that you were only dating me for the sake of not being alone during the battle. I didn't want to hurt you, but I also didn't want you to hurt me."
I was shocked. This is definitely not what I had expected him to say. I figured he'd say he 'wanted to protect me.'
"But-" he interrupted me.
"You didn't let me finish. I also wanted to keep you safe, from everything. Did you know Voldy was targeting all known couples?"
I shook my head no; this was actually the first time I'd heard of that.
"The moment I found that out, over the radio of course, I put my plan into action. I really didn't mean for it to go on this long. I just got so comfortable here. Then, I heard about you and Malfoy getting together. And can I ask, what in Godric were you thinking?!"
"He made me happy. That's all I have to say about him." I could feel my face flushing and my eyes welling up with tears.
"Made? As in past tense?"
I nodded my head.
"What happened?"
"I kinda caught him with someone."
"And by 'someone,' she means that Slytherin witch Parkinson," At that moment, Ginny had just entered the room, holding a book. It looks like a scrapbook.
"It's been nearly two and a half hours. Aren't you two done reminiscing yet?"
"Well I guess we are now," I stated. "Anyway, what's that?" I gestured to the book in her hands.
"A scrapbook. Duh."
Fred snorted.
"I see that. I meant; why do you have one?"
"To record life's moments, of course. Why else?"
She opened it up and revealed the first page. A family portrait of all the Weasleys waved to us.
"Here, you can look. There's a place for you, if you want to put some photos in it."
She handed it to me and I sat down. I started to flip the pages and came across a page titled: Baby's First Sonogram, and Baby's first haircut, and also Baby's first Christmas.
I had forgotten Fred was sitting next to me, looking over my shoulder at the book.
"Who's having a baby?" He raised an eyebrow and looked at Gin, then back at the book, then me.
"I- I'm pregnant."
"Pregnant? You're- Who's the father?"
I was very flustered and ashamed. The father... A lying, cheating, conniving, Slytherin.
"Malfoy," Ginny looked at me knowingly.
"Malfoy?! I thought he cheated on you?"
"Yes, he did. But that was after I found out about the baby."
"Does he know?"
"No, of course not."
"Are you going to tell him?"
"No. Of course not. He made that choice, now he has to live with it. And he's getting no happiness or joy from me."
"I agree with her," Ginny interjected.
Fred only nodded and continued with the next question. "How far along are you?"
"About two months. My due date is January second." A New Years baby. That's what he'll be.
"Wait-so you did 'the dirty' with Malfoy-in April? Isn't that right?"
I knew exactly what he was getting at. Yes, I had sex with Draco Malfoy on April first, because I was grieving. I needed some comforting, and that's what Draco gave me. Every year on April the first, Fred's birthday, is very hard for me to endure.
Apparently, we had forgotten to use a protective spell. And thus, I'm pregnant.
"Um, so anyways... All the awkwardness aside, I think you two need to move in together," Ginny said awkwardly.
"Moving a bit fast there, aren't you Gin?" Fred asked. "We haven't seen each other in nearly four years. I think we need to catch up a little before anything like that; I don't even know if she has the same feelings as before." He must've forgotten I was there, or he was just trying to prove a point.
"As much as I'd hate to admit it Gin, Fred's right. I mean, I just found out Fred's alive, plus I'm pregnant with another man's baby."
Fred looked at me surprised.
"Since when do you agree with the male species," he asked.
I giggled,"well, since my ex boyfriend is literally always on my mind. Dead or alive," I can't believe I just said that. My face grew warm and I knew that stupid blush was back, creeping up my neck and face.
"Right. So, I think it's time that we go home...Coming (your name)?" Ginny asked me.
She always knows how to make the situation better.
