You would never know a man occupied the rusty cell. At first glance the cell looked empty. Darkness pored out of every nook and cranny, Dark unlike any darkness you've ever seen. It seemed to swallow the thin man who was curled in the furthest corner away from the bars. Darkness, so much darkness. It was in the air. It had almost a presence with it. It was hard for Sirius to describe it. He remembered the first day he was led to his cell. He remembered feeling the hot tears stream down his freezing cold face as he heard the terrifying screams and moans of the prisoners that occupied Askaban. He remembered the feeling of the darkness as soon as he stepped inside the gates of Askaban, it sweeped over him, making all the hairs on his body rise. His stomach dropped and his heart pounded louder than anything he had ever heard before. However fast his heart pounded, his body didn't have anywhere near the same fast reaction. If anything his entire body seemed to stop. His legs suddenly dragged and his movements seemed slow and heavy. The darkness has seeped into him so fast it almost paralysed him. His cries turned into screams rather fast. He screamed so loud as he neared the dementors he felt the tendons in his neck burst, he felt the agony as his throat tore open from the inside. And my god the pain. But no matter how much pain he was in he just couldn't stop the gurgled, broken screams that seeped out of his mouth the closer he got.

But Sirius had learned since then. He learned to keep his mouth shut and head down. He had learned how to live with the darkness. He almost welcomed it. Almost welcomed the suffocation that came with it. He wouldn't be able to think much then. He didn't want to be able to think, because thinking means remembering and remembering means pain. It means remembering that night. The night his brother was slaughtered. The night he held his dead body in his arms as his heart tore open again and again. He shivered thinking about it and pushed it out of his mind, he wrapped his arms around his legs and curled on his side. His eyes were burning and he blinked back the tears. He breathed a deep rattling breath and continued to let the darkness fill his head again. And his heart hurt less..
