By the time you reach the outskirts of Jupiter, the suitcase you hold feels heavier than it had been when you first left.

You eyes settle on the brightly colored tents and you heave a sigh as you set down your suitcase. You curl and uncurl your fingers to stretch them after they'd been gripping at your suitcase handle for so long. You'd walked all the way here. You don't have much money to spare, especially on a taxi. So you had set out early in the day to avoid the midday heat. And luckily you'd arrived just in time. Summer in Jupiter isn't very forgiving.

Jimmy has just finished setting up the last of the banners by the tent entrance when he sees you. A suitcase sits by your feet and you're wringing your hands together as you study the freak show. His brows furrow. Are you lost? Perhaps you plan to ask for some directions.

That's when he realizes he hadn't heard a taxi approach and drive off. Had you walked here? The freak show is a comfortable distance out of town—certainly not a trip one would want to take on foot. Yet here you are. Where could you possibly be going if you were walking?

It doesn't look like you'll be moving anytime soon, so Jimmy takes it upon himself to check on you.

"Think you're a little early, doll," he comments as he comes to a stop in front of you. "Show isn't until tonight."

You were so busy taking in the sight before you with its large tent in the center and its banners showcasing all the various performers that you didn't notice him walking up to you. You blink and slide your gaze over to him.

"O-Oh, um..." you begin nervously. You haven't stopped wringing your hands. The man doesn't say anything, doesn't rush you to answer. He watches you with gentle brown eyes. You bite your lip as your eyes go downcast, and that's when you see his hands—his fingers are fused in a way that they resemble lobster claws. As soon as you had cast your gaze upon them, they disappear, for he hides them behind his back. Your eyes snap back up as you now realize that your curious gaze might have come across as one of disgust. The lack of eye contact the man now maintains with you is evident of that, and suddenly you feel terrible.

"I didn't come to watch the show," you continue, hoping to move past the awkward silence. "I... I came to maybe... find my place... here..."

Jimmy raises a brow as he surveys you up and down. "You don't have anything wrong with you."

You bite your lip. He has you there. No deformities or any extraordinary talents to share with an audience. Just a plain girl is what you are. But...

"I've been an orphan my whole life, Mister, and I'm too old for the orphanage now," you begin. "And, well, the freak show is for people that no one else wants, right?" The man doesn't entertain you with a nod or a shake of his head. He simply continues to stand there and listen. "I just thought that since no one else wants me, I should... come here..."

Jimmy feels as though a weight has been dropped on his chest as he looks at you. Now you're the one who can't meet his gaze, opting to look off to the side and keep yourself entertained with the plethora of tents and trailers.

"So I guess something is wrong with me..." you mutter quietly. You don't think he can hear that above the noise of the wind blowing, but he can, and he frowns. You really are lost.

"Come with me," he says finally, and you look up at him, confusion in your eyes, as though not quite believing that he hasn't turned you away (like many have).

You nod quickly, fearing that if you hesitate for even a second that he would change his mind, and go to pick up your suitcase. The man rushes forward, hand brushing over yours as he grabs the handle instead. You retract your hand quickly to stay out of his way, and hear him murmur a sorry as he easily lifts your suitcase. Great. He must've taken that as another sign that you're appalled by the states of his hands, though you really aren't. You hope he doesn't already dislike you. Although you can't say you'd be too surprised if he does. It's not the first time that's happened.
