"Miranda!" I shout. "Yeah what, Em?" she replies, her voice distant. "I need, like, need, to get Heather reading" I say. "You're too obsessed with reading, Em. If she doesn't like it, let her be. She'll find out one day what she's missing out on" Miranda says calming me. "I suppose you're right, but I'd still like to convince her. You know how I feel about it" I say, trying to make Miranda help me. "Yeah. But don't start her on Life in outer space. For a first book, choose something more popular, because in this town, there aren't many books. Plus, if she reads that, she'll fall in love with Camilla. You know how she feels about other women. Then she'll go crazy searching for a person who doesn't even exist" Miranda consoles me.
I look around Miranda's apartment. It's very modern, and almost everything's brown. "Also, Em. I need your help on something. Should I dye my hair red, or blue?" Miranda asks, shyly. "Red" I say. "Ok. Red it is" she says, looking at her hair, before turning back to me. "You don't like your hair, do you?" I ask. "Hey, I don't really like myself. That's why I need to ask" she says. "What's wrong with you?" I ask. "It's just that,"she trails off " don't worry"
