In this fantasy, every story, every movie has its own parallel universe where that story exists. The directors and authors have often heard of this myth and make jokes about it from time to time. It's equivalent to how every theater is haunted and has its own ghost(s).
The children of a top notch director spend the day at set with their father as he finishes up his last day filming. Growing up, he would tell them about these make believe universes as bedtime stories, and when they would ask if he believed in them he would remind them that they "were just stories."
As they are playing around set, they accidentally stumble upon one of these parallel universes and must find their home. Throughout their journey they stumble upon multiple different universes and stories like 1998, Scream, Hamlet, Clueless, etc. The tricky part is: finding their own.
