[a broken line]
-
It's been three months since the breakup, and Harry was still the same as ever. The love he had for her never grew any less, it only grew even more. His craving for her was climbing higher and higher, and he couldn't even call her anymore. He had tried calling again a month ago, only to learn that she had cut off her phone.
"I'm sorry, the number you are trying to reach is no longer available. Please dial a different number." The automated voice had said, and he threw his phone across the room.
Two days later, as if her phone would magically work again, he dialed her number. It didn't work. He heard the same robotic voice from the other line, and he gave up. She had probably gotten a new number.
He wanted to get out of his apartment and run to his car, to drive to her house in the city. He couldn't do that though, because the last time he went—two weeks after the breakup—her parents had threatened him. They told him that if they saw him at their place again, they would call the cops and place a restraining order. So that choice wasn't available any longer. He couldn't afford having an order placed on him; that would really mean that he couldn't be near her. And that thought killed him.
So all he could do was visit her at work sometimes, and of course, without her knowing. He watched her from the glass window in the café she worked in, just to get a glance. To make sure she was still healthy and that she was smiling and happy.
She was. That hurt him, but at the same time, knowing she was still herself made him feel okay. For a little while, anyway.
She was smiling, sure, but not because of him. He used to be the reason for her smiles, but he wasn't anymore. She was still the reason for his though.
That would never change.
