Our Own Infinity

Niall and Liam have been together for three years and, although no one besides the lads and their families knew until recently, they couldn't be any more in love.

"Liam? Can I talk to you for a minute?" I asked, stepping out into the sitting room upon finally working up the courage to do this. We were currently in America after the final concert of our fourth tour and we’d decided to take a break together before all going home. This decision had mostly been made in order to celebrate because Liam and I had finally come out to the world after three years of sneaking around.

"Yeah, of course. What’s up?" Liam asked with a smile, turning around to look at me while Louis plopped down on the settee beside Harry. They'd been flinging elastic bands at each other from across the room while Harry kept score, but Liam called for a truce when I walked in.

"Um…..alone?" I asked nervously, playing with the object still clutched in my hand. I’d held it in a closed fist since finding it almost half an hour ago, which is how long it took me to pluck up to nerve to ask about it. I didn't want to jump to conclusions, but it was hard not to.

"Alright……" Liam replied hesitantly, sharing a look with Louis and Harry before following me to the room we'd been sharing for the duration of our stay here.

"So…..um…..I was cleaning up a bit in here, and…..when I was folding a pair of your jeans; this fell out." I explained, taking Liam’s hand and holding it out flat before dropping a ring into his open palm. It was a beautiful silver ring, with a simple band that meet in an infinity symbol. (Picture on the side.)

"Oh. I…..you weren’t meant to find it." Liam explained lamely, slowly closing his fingers around the ring and not taking his gaze away from my face.

"Yeah; I kinda figured." I sighed with a weak smile, flicking my gaze away from his and looking to the floor as he continued to watch me silently. Three years we'd been together and I still blushed like an idiot when he looked at me with such intensity and love.

"You know it’s for you, right?" He asked suddenly, sounding almost panicked, which made me jerk my head up to look at him. "Because I would never go behind your back like that, I swear-"

"I know. I know you wouldn’t: I trust you." I laughed, interrupting his little rant and taking a step closer as I smiled and his expression soften from the worried frown he’d just been sporting. In the last seven years, he'd definitely gotten more laid back but that didn't take away from the fact he could still get overly stressed about little things.

"Good…..I mean…good." Liam sighed, smiling at me as I took another step closer so we were almost nose to nose. Liam was still a few inches taller than I was, so I had to tilt my head back to look at him properly with how close we were.

"Good……" I repeated with a giggle, resting my hands on his chest as Liam rapped his arms around my waist and pulled my body flush against his.

"So, just out of curiosity; if I had asked, what would your answer have been?" Liam asked, nuzzling into my neck affectionately before kissing a line along my collarbone, only stopping when I protested that he was tickling me.

"Yes; of course. Every time; yes. I love you." I laughed, reaching up to cup his cheek as a grin broke out across my face. Grinning back, Liam kissed me softly, before pulling away just enough to look me in the eyes.

"Well, in that case. Niall; I’ve loved you right from the moment we met. It might have taken me four years to realize, but, hey, we got there in the end." Liam started with a laugh, before he got down on one knee with a suddenly serious expression. "You’ve made me the happiest I can remember being and I love you to the moon and back. I want to spend the rest of my life with you, if you’ll only let me. So……will you marry me?"

"Yes! Of course I’ll marry you." I exclaimed, getting down on my knees, too and rapping my arms around Liam’s neck. In that moment, I couldn't have wiped the ecstatic grin from my face, even if I'd wanted to.

"I love you." Liam whispered in my ear; taking my left arm from his neck to slip the ring on my finger before allowing me to rap it around his neck again and returning my hug. After kissing my temple lightly, he rested his chin on my shoulder and started to sway slowly.

"I love you, too." I giggled as I planted a kiss on his collarbone; my voice muffled because my face was pressed into the crook of his neck.

Not five seconds later, Louis burst through the door and dropped down next to us; rapping us up in a hug and repeatedly exclaiming; 'congratulations' while we laughed at him. I didn't know how long he'd been standing outside our room, but it'd clearly been long enough that he'd heard Liam's question and my answer.

"Well, show us the ring, then." Zayn commanded softly from where he and Harry were standing in the doorway once Louis, Liam and I had gotten to our feet. After showing the lads the ring (and laughing as they cooed at us) we all gathered in the sitting room for another elastic band war. This time it was Liam and I against Harry and Louis, while Zayn pretended to keep score, when really he was just laughing at how over dramatic Louis was about the whole thing.
