We got to the house after an hour of driving we finally made it to Uncle Jason’s, the house was massive and it had four bedrooms even though it’s only them two that live there. He showed us our rooms and then went downstairs to help Serena with dinner. I took a shower and got ready for dinner, rummaging through the closet I just filled with my clothes I retrieved light blue high-wasted jeans and a white tank top which I tucked into the jeans and then I chucked on a pair of blue fluffy socks because I wasn’t going anywhere so I don’t need shoes. As I was just about to leave my room to go downstairs a gush of wind came through the window and the curtains were floating everywhere, I walked up to the window and lifted my arms up to pull it down. Just as my fingers curled on the edge of the window to pull it down I noticed a light on in the room just opposite to mine in the house next door and a figure stood in the window staring at me, something about him put me on edge. I don’t know whether it was the fact that he was really tall or the way his arms bulge with his arms crossed over his chest or that even though it’s dark and I can hardly see his face but I can still make out a slight smirk on this mystery man’s face. A wave of fear coursed through me and I slammed the window shut and shut my curtains as quick as I can, I turned and let out a loud scream but my mouth was covered by a hand.
“Fuck Dev, it’s only me!” the person said – Alex – she scared the living shit out of me. I opened my eyes from their previously shut state.
“You scared the fuck out of me, Alex!” I snapped after slapping her hand from my mouth, she raised her eyebrow and turned on her heel.
“Dinners done.” She chimed while walking out of my room, I followed her and we made our way downstairs into the kitchen.
“There you two are! Take a seat at the table girls it’s all set up!” Serena chirped, flashing a beautiful white smile at us as we walking into the dining room. Uncle Jason was sat at the table already eyeing the food on the plate impatiently, I took a seat on his right and Alex sat next to me. After a minute or two Serena walked in, not flustered at all from the cooking -like my mother used to- she sat on the right of Uncle Jason and smiled at us. “Dig in guys!” she laughed as Alex and Uncle Jason sighed with relief and started shovelling chicken into their mouths and moaning with satisfaction.
“So Uncle Jason, what type of work are you in?” I asked before placing a piece of chicken into my mouth, oh my god this is delicious!
“Devina, just call me Jason or Jase!” He paused laughing before continuing. “And I own a club and handle a lot of money for big investments!” he said and Serena shifted uncomfortably but I think I was the only one who noticed, she looked up at me and smiled, but it wasn’t very convincing as it never met her eyes.
“Okay jase, who lives next door? On the right?” I questioned and Jase’s eyes went wide and his jaw clenched.
“They’re bad news, Devina sweetie, please promise me you’ll stay away from them! And you too Alex!” Serena spoke up gently but with authority in her voice. I simply nodded then looked at my plate I all of a sudden lost my appetite. I heard Alex, Serena and Jase speak among themselves but I was too caught up in my thoughts partake. What if he saw me naked while I get changed after my shower? And what does she mean by bad news? What sort of bad news? All these unanswered thoughts running through my head are making me nauseous but I need to get to the bottom of all of this and find out who that guy was without getting into trouble.
