The Killer Duo

Chapter 11- A new trick

"C'mon, Jane. How about we play hide and seek?" LJ the rainbow clown asked the little girl who is holding his hand as he guides her inside of the tent. "I promise that it will be fun."

Little six year old Jane looked at the clown shyly as she told him. "I don't know if I can play with you when you are so busy with the other kids here." LJ laughed softly as he took her up in his arms and threw her into the air for a moment and then caught her when she landed back in his awaiting arms. Somehow that little stunt made Jane giggle at her new friend.

"I am never too busy for my children, and that includes you Jane." LJ said. "I want to just take away your fear so that you don't have to be so scared to be my friend." Jane could tell at a young age that the clown is keeping that promise. "But, only you have the power to face your fear and head on. I know that you are scared because of what the other kids will say about you Jane, but I will assure you that nobody will hurt you when I am around."

"Do you make those promises to every kid?" Little Jane asked.

"I try to make sure that I spread my friendship to all of the lonely kids of the world." LJ chuckled. "So while you are here with me in my tent Jane, there will be no more need for your fear to take control of your life. Only happiness and joy will fill in the void." Little Jane smiled, grateful for the clowns reassuring words as she rests her head on LJ's shoulder while he walks to find a perfect place to play with the girl.

He sings a little tune from his song to ease her. "Hush now dear Jane, it must be this way, to weary of life and deceptions, rest now my child for soon we'll away, into the calm and the quiet." Little Jane made her arms as if to try to hug him, but she permitted her arms to not finish what she is doing for her body is resting against her very special friend. She felt her arms being moved up to LJ's shoulders, it looks like the clown knew what she is trying to do and decided to finish it for her.

After her encounter with LJ, Little Jane could never forget about him, everything about him from his colors to his song for her would stay with her until her death. She didn't know why but whenever she sang his "Come Little Children," or his "Pop Goes the Weasel", Little Jane knew for some odd reason that he is watching over her and protecting her, even though she is far away from his reach when she is home. He almost seems to remind her of a guardian angel.

Now here he is again in the flesh, and in a different nature as well. Jane the Killer could tell that by looking into his sky blue eyes, or in his pale silvery white ones, that he still cares for the children and will do absolutely anything to protect them even if it cost him one person who was his child.

As soon as she saw Laughing Jacks transformation from his colorful rainbow self to a monochrome menace that would make even the smallest of children and the biggest of adults to hide underneath their beds, Jane wondered if by chance that Laughing Jack remembered her as a little girl, but her fear was that she might have been forgotten a long time ago.

She still wanted to know if he will even continue being her special friend now that she is older. Jane wished inside of her heart that he will be alright from what is to come to him.

Up on the cliff, Jane could see that Mumbo is trying to find a good size boulder to throw it at the clown, but each time he throws the rocks, Laughing Jack deflected the attack by a simple slice from his sharp clawed hands.

Before Mumbo could attack the clown again, Jack's long arms stretched across the cave and wrapped them around Mumbo's legs, making him lose his balance as he fell to the cold hard ground.

"Children," Mumbo said in a commanding voice, making the brainwashed children blink their eyes. "Get rid of this menace that is trying to kill me!" The brainwashed children then moved away from the killers in order to do what their master told them to do.
