JEFF ATKINS FIRST noticed Camila Alvarez when she was cheerleading at his first baseball game in freshman year—he had been so captured by her angelic appearance that they nearly lost the game. From then on, he seemed to see Camila more and more; at Monet's, at his baseball games, in school, and he slowly became obsessed. He was always extremely confident when it came to girls but when it came to Camila, it was like she had some kind of spell on his. Because of that, despite his massive crush on the girl, he never approached her or let alone ever even talked to her, at least until the night of Hannah Baker's very first and last party.

Camila didn't usually go to parties because she didn't like leaving her grandma alone but tonight was an exception. It was her friend (or rather acquaintance), Kat, who was throwing the party before she left town. She had promised herself that she wouldn't drink and to be home before midnight even though her grandma would be in bed well before then.

After helping her grandma close up the library, she began walking to the party which wasn't too far away from her house. She definitely couldn't afford a car and either could her grandmother so her only mode of transport was her bike that she had had since freshman year and her own two feet which she didn't mind. Surprisingly, Camila never got made fun of for riding a bike to school which was likely just an advantage of being the pretty girl.

When she got to a few blocks before the house she began to hear the loud hum of music emitting from inside and cars began to appear parked along the sides of the pavements, the voices of rowdy teenagers filling the night air.

Camila was filled with relief as she reached the door of the house, her feet beginning to ache from the little support her flats were giving her. As she walked inside, she searched the room for a familiar face, her eyes immediately landing on Kat and Hannah who were standing in the middle of the living room, chatting until they found Camila walking in.

As Camila walked towards the two, a smile spread on her face, Jeff Atkins' eyes were latched onto her. He was currently standing in a group with Bryce Walker and Marcus Cole but his attention was elsewhere, completely uninterested in the conversation of which girls they were deciding on stalking like prey tonight. The girl his eyes were on might as well have had a halo surrounding her head as she threw her head back in laughter at a joke that Kat had made, unable to control herself. He was tempted to go up to the girl and talk to her but was unable to find the courage, so he simply watched her walk into the kitchen with Kat and Hannah by her side. His attention was only brought back to the two who were in conversation when he heard Camila's name be mentioned by Bryce as his eyes followed her body while she left the room.

"Camila Alvarez, the untouched angel." Bryce said, a smirk on his lips. "Man, the things I'd do to her..."

Jeff felt the urge to punch Bryce in the face ten times more than usual in that moment but somehow managed to keep his mouth shut, clenching his fists until his knuckles turned white.
