*note: Here, have a crossover fanfiction because I am kind of a nervous freak and can't write Sans and Chara fighting yet. This takes place in the normal Undertale universe, however instead of Frisk it will be Storyshift! Chara to take their place. Chara still remains gender-ambiguous in this. Not yet a pairing oneshot, since I'm thinking of writing an accompaniment oneshot to tie this up, I dunno. If you want me to you can always tell me. Anywho, with that out of the way...let's get on with it!

*pairing: Storyshift! Chara x Classic! Sans

Well, that was uneventful. Was the first thing that enters Chara's mind once they take a step outside of the door to the ruins. Their boots landed on the soft, white snow with a fresh crunch. They winced as soon as they felt the biting coldness that was a stark difference to the insides of the Ruins. The door behind them slowly swung close. Chara turned back to take one last look at the beckoning, huge purple doors. It was a shame that they would have to leave so soon, they actually enjoyed it back there. Having a goat monster as a company wasn't really that bad. To be honest, Chara wanted to stay longer with the motherly goat monster. Toriel had saved them from the demon-like flower that nearly killed them.

Toriel also guided Chara through the Ruins and trusted them enough to let them into her home. Toriel even showed them a spare room, granted it was one for a kid, but Chara did not really want to complain- not when they were being shown such kindness. It was almost like Toriel had been expecting a guest. However, it was not in Chara's mind to stay long. Asriel- their dear, younger brother would be worried very much about them.

But even though, their short stay with Toriel made them feel very much at home. Toriel cooked her signature butterscotch cinnamon pie, Chara enjoyed it so much that they actually nabbed another slice- it was just something to keep for laters. After that, Toriel had retired to the living room to read a book, but she gladly informed Chara that they could walk around and explore the house. Chara ended up inside a room, which they figured was Toriel's. There, they found out that this wonderful old lady actually enjoyed their types of jokes!

In the living room later, Chara cracked a couple of their best material and got Toriel to laugh, amused at the antic. What followed next was what Chara considered to be the second best pun battle that they had in their entire life.

"Knock, knock?"

"Who's there?"

"Red."

"Red who?"

"Knock, knock?"

Toriel giggled, calmly with a hand over her mouth.

"Who's there? But didn't you just-"

"Sssh!" Chara placed a finger to their mouth. "Just go with it- Red."

"Red who?"

"Knock, knock?"

"Who's there?" After a moment Toriel paused. "But my child, have you not said it earlier?"

Chara shot her the same finger over mouth gesture. "Orange." they responded with a smirk.

At that Toriel raised an eyebrow. A smile curls on her lips at the anticipation of the joke. "Orange who?"

"Orange you glad that I didn't say red?" Chara laughs and Toriel follows along, a bleaty amused laugh. Toriel follows later and tells some quality jokes about skeletons and goats.

As much as it was fun, Toriel reminded them of the mysterious man behind the said doors that also adored puns like them. That set the gears turning in their head Chara pretty much panicked and soon they was asking Toriel about how to exit the ruins, ready to explain their predicament. The words leave their mouth and and a change comes of Toriel. She rises from her chair and places the book and glasses down on the chair as Chara looks at her confused.
