It's around evening now, and the day's gone just fine. Today's a 'wing-it' dinner, so you make ramen again, this time beef flavored after you had chicken flavored ramen for lunch. All you've done so far today is hang out with Medic, the both of you playing with your pets, and once you finish your dinner, you go right back to doing just that.
As the two of you talk, something amusing happens- the two of you find Archimedes and Mocha together, the dove perched quietly asleep on the cat's head. "Aw, man, Medic! Look at this! Look at him on top of her head!" You burst into laughter and Medic joins you, both of you nearly falling over. "Nice hat there, Mocha!" you tease, the cat seeming mildly annoyed.
She seems relieve as Medic gently takes the bird in his hands and settles him on his shoulder. You admire the two for a moment before Mug suddenly jumps to her feet, scrambling for the door and pawing at it. "Oh, yeah! I almost forgot! Time for you guys to go get some fresh air!" You turn to Medic, explaining, "It relaxes them, so it's easier to get them to go to sleep at night, especially the kittens."
Medic, having previously looked bewildered, nods in understanding. "So that's what it is! I do something similar with Archimedes. He flies around the base for a while." Medic seems to find it a little cool that the two of you let your pets settle down around the evening. You open the door and the lot of you step (or fly) outside, you taking your ramen with you to eat.
"Hey," you say, suddenly looking towards Medic with a worried expression, ears pinned down. Medic glances towards you in acknowledgment. "Aren't you worried about Archimedes flying away?" He smiles at you, finding your concern for his bird charming.
"Don't worry, I trained him long ago. I think it's horrid when people clip and ruin magnificent wings."
You find yourself relating to the statement quite a lot. "I know! It's just like when cats get declawed! It's painful and pointless."
You turn, looking at your family of cats. Mug and Mocha sunbathe as they watch their kittens, Jennifer, Jonathan, Riko, and Lola. It's an adorable sight, but you find yourself looking up and being distracted by the sky. "Oh," you whisper in awe, your head tilting. "The sunset looks amazing." You smile again, calmly this time.
"Ja, it does." He smiles over at you, and you give a gentle little blush, thankful that it doesn't seem to be noticeable. His eyes move down to your neck, targeting on your collar. "Say, I always wondered what that collar is about." You give him a confused expression, ears twitching for a moment before you realize what he's talking about.
"Oh!" you start. "This! It's a long story." He smiles sweetly at you, nodding in understanding.
"That's fine."
You begin your story, wolfing ramen down every few sentences. "Okay, so, a long time ago, I had a friend I knew since kittenhood. She grew up and started a cat rescue and invited me to work with her, and naturally, I accepted. Everything was great for a while. We kept so many cats off the street that, occasionally, we had to breed cats just to stay in business. So many cats were being adopted that there were barely any strays left in that town at all.
"We lived peacefully until one of the kittens started teething. Lola... well, she liked to chew on wires. We tried giving her toys that felt like wires but weren't, but she wasn't interested in them at all. Eventually, her chewing made the wires faulty, and a fire started. (BFF/N)... I called her master... I loved and cared for her, but..." Your heart breaks thinking about it and you have to pause for a moment. "...The fire took everything. Including her."
You take a moment to take a breath and then continue. "Miss Pauling cared for me until the Admin gave her those orders." The Medic blinks as you pause there.
"And that order just so happened for you to be shipped to Teufort?" he asks quietly. You nod, and he seems to be at a loss for words for a moment. "Wow. That must have been hard for you." You nod again.
"Yeah, it was, but I would be lying if I said that you guys didn't soften the blow for me. You'd think I'd be miserable here, but I like you guys."
Medic smiles, happy to hear that the team makes you happy. Even despite your past, you still smile and care for your cats and yourself. Then, suddenly, he asks, "I wonder... do you forgive Lola?"
You gasp, offended. "Of course! It wasn't her fault! She was just teething! Regardless of what happens, I will always love my cats." Medic nods in agreement. He knows what it feels to love a pet more than anything, even one that can be troublesome.
"Well, it's getting rather late, isn't it? Let's go back inside. The stars are out and I need to go to bed. Goodnight!"
Medic smiles. "Gute Nacht," he replies. You find yourself hugging him, earning a little bit of a blush from him. He smiles, chuckling and mumbling to himself, "That girl..." as the two of you part ways, petting Archimedes as he walks.
