Naruto blinked his eyes open to find himself knee deep in water. Judging from the walls it was a sewer. How does he know? He's had to hide in some pretty weird places.
'wasn't somebody just about to kill me?'
"So, my jailer finally pays me a visit."
The blonde whipped around to see a large cage with a seal on the door. And behind the bars was a giant reddish-orange fox, it's nine tails whipping around hypnotically. And to say the kid was shocked is a understatement.
"W-who are y-you? A-and w-where a-are we?"
The fox laughed, "We are in your mind scape runt. And I am the Nine-tailed demon fox your villagers hate so much."
Naruto was shocked, and couldn't stop one thought going through his head. His body slumped and he looked down, crestfallen.
"S-so I r-really a-am a d-demon"
The Nine-tailed fox (who had stopped laughing) blinked a few times, that was... unexpected. And he was an almighty demon that had walked this earth for a long time, not much could surprise him. The fox thought for a moment, then came up with an idea. He was probably going to regret it, but it wasn't like he had anything better too do.
"How about we cooperate."
The blonde looked up, confused. Naruto had heard a few long words while he was sneaking around but that wasn't one of them.
"W-what d-does that m-mean?"
"We will work together, for now."
Naruto thought for a moment. "O-okay. B-but w-wasn't s-someone a-about t-to k-kill m-me."
The fox snorted, "Whatever that human did kept you from dying."
"O-oh."
Naruto nervously shuffled his feet under the water. Then looked back up at his tenant with those brilliant sky blue eyes.
"W-what's y-your n-name?"
The nine-tails eyes widened a bit, none of his other jailers had ever shown him even the slightest bit of compassion, and then this 6-year old boy asked him what his name was.
"Kurama."
Naruto gave the fox a big toothy grin, his first real smile in a long time.
"T-then good-bye f-for now."
Kurama gave the barest hints of a smile as the boy faded out of his mind scape.
'Maybe this won't be so bad'
