He stood there in the dark room, the only light pouring in from the window and casting his shadow across the wall. His hands shook as he gripped the pill bottle, tears streaming from his beautiful blue hues as he gripped the back of the chair.

I have to do this. I can't do it anymore.

He choked out a soft sob, clenching his eyes shut. He didn't want to die. All he wanted was to be happy. But it felt so impossible at this point. He felt like dying may be the only sane thing to do.

He carefully brought the bottle to his lips, feeling the smooth surface of the first pill touch his tongue.

The door swung open.

He dropped the bottle to the floor out of shock, the pills spilling all over the tiles. He looked up into a pair of brown eyes that belonged to a girl, her long brown curls drenched from the pouring rain outside. Her lips parted in surprise.

"Oh, hey, Isaac." She said, giving a small wave.

His brow furrowed. "Do I know you?"

"Oh, uh, no. I guess not." She chuckled softly. "I'm Sam, I'm in your English class? I sit in the back, so it's no surprise that you've never seen me before." She shrugged.

"Oh." He whispered, his hands still gripping the back of the chair as tightly as possible.

"Sorry I startled you, I just forgot my..." Sam trailed off when her eyes landed on the pills scattered across the floor, making her freeze in her tracks.

Isaac began to tremble harder as he watched her, more tears spilling from his eyes. "I-I-"

"You...You were gonna...?" Sam whispered, her worried eyes gazing up into his teary broken ones.

And then he broke.

He gripped at his torso as he bent his head, screwing his eyes shut while letting out a wailing sob. "Yes, okay?! Yes, I was about to swallow them until you freaking ruined it!"

Sam stared up at him, concern laced thoroughly in her hazel colored hues. "Isaac-"

"Why the hell are you even here?!" Isaac cut her off, throwing his hands up. "What do you care if I die?! No one else does!"

"That's not true!" Sam argued, her brow furrowing. "You have to have something worth living for, anything! Your friends? Your family?"

Isaac laughed bitterly. "The only family I have is my Dad, who hates me enough to lock me in the freezer. The freezer. And my friends? As far as they know my life is perfect. They don't know anything about me, not really."

"What?" Sam whispered. "W-Why haven't you-"

"Told them?" Isaac finished, his voice lowering to a whisper. "As if they'd care. They have their own problems to deal with." He whispered, shaking his head.

Sam was quiet for a minute before finally speaking again. "I care."

He lifted his blue hues to meet her hazel ones and he frowned. "What?"

"I care. I-I know I don't know you all that well, but I know you well enough to be able to say...please don't." Sam said, shaking her head slowly.

"But why?" Isaac whispered, shaking his head. "Give me one reason why I shouldn't just down those pills and end it all!"

Sam took a shaking breath before her eyes lit up. "I can give you 10."

Isaac's eyes filled with confusion. "What are you talking about?"

"I want to make you a deal, Lahey." Sam said confidently, folding her arms over her chest. "You give me 10 days, and I'll give you 10 reasons why you matter and why you should stay." She said. "If I convince you, you have to stay."

"And if you can't?" Isaac snapped, his eyes narrowing.

Sam hesitated before sighing. "I will buy you the pills myself."

Isaac stared at her, his eyes red and sore from all his tears. Sam gave him a pleading look.

"It's 10 days. Please, Isaac." She said softly.

The blonde boy sighed through his nose, dropping his gaze to his feet. "Okay."

Sam raised her eyebrows. "Okay?"

"Okay. You have 10 days."
