-short shitty filler chapter bc i haven't updated in awhile and i NEED TO GET BACK ON IT-
marks POV. ;optimistic:

as i smooth my jacket out in front of the mirror, i feel nervous flutters in the pit of my stomach.
i was taking jack out on a date tonight.
now, i did low-key force him into it, as i sadly am aware that he would only date me over his dead body, but it's always good to try.
and if 'trying' requires being a shit head, then it's a shit head i will be.
before i walk out the door, i run my fingers through my hair absentmindedly for a last minute touch up, before grabbing my keys and walking out to my car.
as i drive, i can't help but think about how tonight will go. i'm already positive it won't be easy, as jack already has no interest in me at all.
i don't worry too much, though. i'll make him interested in me.
i pull into jack's driveway, leaving the car running as i slide out and walk up to the door, lightly knocking a few times before placing my hands in my pockets.
a petite older lady with smile lines around her mouth and natural happy crinkles around her eyes opens the door, a grin growing on her lips when she sees me.
"hello hon! you're here to grab seán?" she greets, opening the door wider and motioning for me to step inside.
i blink for a moment in confusion before i remember that jack's actual name is seán. i liked that. i step in, smiling at her with whatever amount of charm i can muster. "i am, actually."
she nods, walking over to the edge of the steps leading to the top floor of the house, where jacks room was. she clears her throat and calls him down.
we both awkwardly stand for a few seconds awaiting an answer, and i jump when i hear jack's loud voice ring through the house in reply.
"i'll be down in like.. two seconds!"
his mother rolls her eyes lightheartedly and turns back to me. "honestly, my boy is going to be late to his own funeral."
i chuckle and reply. "well, that's not always a bad thing. it gives him.. character."
she tilts her head for a moment, seeming to be in extreme thought. she's like this for a few seconds before nodding. "you know what, it does. that's a good way to word it."
i'm about to make some jokingly cocky comment about how everything i say sounds just right, before jack stumbles down the steps slipping a hoodie on as he goes.
i smirk at him. he looks absolutely adorable, his hoodie being the slightest bit big for him and his jeans tight-fitting and hugging the curve of his hips. unintentionally, i find myself looking him up and down shamelessly.
"you look great." i say, smirk staying on my face.
he rolls his eyes, but stops himself when he remembers his mother is still in the room. he puts a smile on his face, but i can see right through it, along with it's plastic exterior. "thank you!" he replies, sickeningly sweet.
his mother looks between the both of us, a satisfied smile on her face. "well- you two go have fun!" she gives jack a serious look. "home by 11, though."
he nods simply before saying a quick goodbye, kissing his mother on the cheek and following me out to my car.
as we get in, i turn to him right away. "can i get one of those too?"
"one of what?"
"a kiss on the cheek. or lips. lips actually sounds better, do that instead."
he huffs out a sigh and buckles himself in. "christ mark, we haven't even pulled out of my driveway and i want to go home."
"what, do you prefer to kiss me on the nose instead?" i grin, and he gives me a glare in reply.
i pull out of his driveway, starting to drive towards the downtown area of our city. "how does something cute and simple, like a little milkshake joint or something sound?"
jack shrugs in reply, and i take one hand off the wheel to nudge him playfully in reply. "cmon, the silent treatment is never fun. let's make this entire date enjoyable, at least. where do you want to go?"
he sighs, staring out of the window. "the milkshakes sound fine."
"sweet! i thought that'd be a good place." and the rest of the car ride to the restaurant, i blabber on and on about the most random subjects. i've practically talked his ear off by the time i'm pulling into a parking space.
as jack goes to open his door, i grab his arm suddenly. he jumps in surprise, but before he can open his mouth to snap at me i interrupt him. "stay in here for a few more seconds."
i let go, getting out of the car and circling around to the other side. i open his door, tipping an imaginary hat and making arm gestures towards the restaurant. "our date awaits!"
he rolls his eyes, shaking his head and getting out. "you are such a dork." he walks past me without a glance, but i can't help but catch the smile ghosting on his lips.
from that moment on, i realize this night won't be bad at all.
