Leila

“Guys, we're running low on food again,” I tutted, rolling my eyes. “With what we actually have, Stripes said he's gonna make us dinner. So in the meantime, you guys wanna nip out to the city with me?” I asked the three. Ehron was sitting on a large rock, sharpening one of my knives, whilst Helen was washing her clothes in the river beside Rob. Louis sent a puzzled look in my direction but I replied with a desperate stare, urging him mentally to go along with it.

“Oh. Uh, yeah, I'll cook whilst you go get supplies,” he nodded.

“Are we that desperate for food?” Rob moaned.

“Yeah, we could get bag-fulls packed. Enough to last for ages,” I exaggerated in my attempts to convince them. I'm sure they'd love to steal all my lovely supplies. Bastards.

“I suppose so,” Helen decided eventually.

“Just head straight into the Jeep, I've already packed,” I instructed. They complied as Helen and Rob slid into the back seat and Ehron in the passenger seat. I started the engine and heard the tyres rolling against the dusty ground, leaving a stunned and confused Louis behind.

I didn't want him to see this.

“Why aren't you pissed at me?” Ehron asked from beside me. I could see him watching me intently in my peripheral vision. “Aren't you going to get me back or something?”
“I think Louis made his point pretty clear. The punch is enough,” my mouth twitched upwards but it was far from a smile.

“Really?”

“Yup”.

“Where are our weapons, Leila dear?” Helen asked from behind me. 'Don't fucking 'dear' me,' I thought, but bit back my snide remarks.

“Oh, they're in the bags. I'll give them to you once we get there,” I informed her nonchalantly. She didn't respond and the rest of the journey remained in a tension-filled silence.

We eventually pulled up at the usual spot and I cut the engine. We all hopped out as I carried the duffel bags containing our weapons, whilst the others held onto the empty bags to fill with gear.

They began walking towards the city, whereas I stood my ground, pulling out my gun from my leggings. I held it ahead of me, aiming at the three. They turned around when they realized I wasn't walking alongside them and froze when they saw the pistol.

“Leila?” Helen asked, her eyes widened in fright.

“Yeah?” I replied casually.

“What are you doing?” Rob asked cautiously.

“Mm...so, you guys thought you could steal my supplies and make a runner, did you? Or steal my Jeep, should I say”.

“But...but Louis-” Helen stammered.

“You think he'd keep that from me? You must be even stupider than I once thought. And you,” I flicked my gun to Ehron, “Trying to have your way with me in the tent like I'm some sort of object? You think you all would have gotten away with this shit? Hell no. I told you son's of bitches not to mess with me so now I'm just getting payback”.

“Leila, dear, please...think about what you're doing...” Helen begged slowly, holding her hands out in a stop motion.

“Why the hell should I? I looked after you guys when you were injured and scared and had nowhere else to go. I took you in and this is what you do to make up for it? Was this your plan all along? Steal the little girl's supplies and be on your way?” Helen and Rob exchanged a glance, confirming my accusation. This was their plan all along. “And you actually have the nerve to threaten my friend? You're all sick”.
