Chapter 1.3 - New Pace

As we walked through the halls and stair cases, I told him what happened last night, about Hitoshi, the phonecall, and the pain I felt when I found out he had a girlfriend.

"HUH?! HE HAS A WHAT?! Oh, (Y/N), I...I'm sorry!", he said as he hugged unexpectedly tight.

"N-Nao, I can't breathe!!", I said and tried to get some air.

He let go of the hug and let out a nervous laugh saying, "Oh, haha. Oops, sorry about that. I got worried for a second there but are you okay now?".

I gave him an unsure look but my lips curled into a smile and I said, "Heh, that's something for me to find out, I guess".

His expression looked like he wanted to do something for me to get better but as we're near our classroom, class 2-B, one of the classrooms nearby was opened and it appeared to be one of the girls.

"Oh, it's Naoki-kun! Good morning~", one of the third year girls said.

"Ah! Look guys, it's him. Naoki-senpai! Ahh~", one of the first year girls squealed while her friend next her fainted.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that he's known to be the prince charming of this school and a star player in our Tennis team.

Thanks to his attractiveness and fame in Tennis, he had a lot of female fans all over the school and they're trying very hard to befriend him.

Although to me, yeah, he's handsome and a star player but sometimes I find him as a happy-go-lucky big brother that anyone can count one because ever since we were kids, he protected me at times especially if others are picking on me.

Naoki was surprised to see the girls waving and greeting him which he gladly response in return.

"Good morning, ladies!", he said and waved.

The girls screamed when he heard his voice like it's heaven to them while Naoki grabbed my arm so we can enter the classroom quickly.

He closed the door behind him and he said, "Phew, that was close".

I laughed, finally, and went to my seat immediately. I placed my bag under my desk with a sigh and look out in the window.

"Hah, such a nice view-Ah!!"

I yelped when Naoki appeared out of nowhere and sat close to me.

"Nao!! You scare the living daylights out of me!", I said and playfully smacked his shoulder.

"Ow, I was trying to cheer you up by surprising you!", he said as he rubbed his shoulder and made a fake hurt look on his face.

Okay, he can be pretty annoying at times too but I do appreciate the warm comfort that he's giving me although this isn't my idea of cheering up.

"Agh, anyways, what is it? You can just talk to me from a one meter distance, you know? We're seatmates!", I said and pouted.

He laughed and ruffled my hair saying, "Wow, calm down. Haha, this is new, (Y/N)-chan. Usually you just laugh it off when I pull surprises on you all the time. I guess this is also an effect of heartbreak, huh-"

He stopped talking when my eyes were now focusing on someone entering the classroom and it turned out to be Hitoshi.

My eyes widened and as my instincts started controlling me, I brought out something from my bag which turned to be my favorite book that I've always read and started reading it.

"Eh? (Y/N)-chan?", he asked and started poking me but when he turned to see Hitoshi from a distance, he gasped, "O-Oh, sorry. On second thought, I'll talk to you later. Sorry!".
