Chapter 17: Are You With Me?
They all apparated separately to Hogsmede the very next morning.
Lucy's feet hit the ground and she felt stable, looking up at the Hogwarts castle meant safety but for how much longer she wasn't sure.
"Home," Shona said longingly, voicing Lucy's thoughts. Lucy wasn't sure whether she'd intended to say the word aloud.
"Agreed," murmured Snape.
They headed through Hogsmede without another word and soon approached the gates to the school, the area was deserted except for Filch snoozing in a chair no doubt instructed to keep watch.
"Oi!" Shona rattled the gate. "Filch, wake up you lazy — "
Filch awoke with an abrupt jerk, stood up quick as a flash and stared straight into Shona's eyes. "IDENTIFY YOURSELVES!" He roared and Lucy was sure he would brandish his wand if he had a spell to go behind it. For some reason she wasn't phased by the caretakers abrupt manner, he was no doubt fearful just like everyone else in these dark times.
"Argus, you know who I am," Snape nearly rolled his eyes in exasperation.
"H-Headmaster!" He stammered and recoiled at the sight of him. "My apologies, I'll go and get Professor McGonagall. She asked for my call if you came back."
Shona rattled the gate again. "Can't you let us in first?"
But he'd already retreated into the castle. His return was swift, though and Professor McGonagall scurried after him. She polished her glasses on her emerald green robes before slipping them on and gasping at the sight of the Gifted in tact for the first time in a while. She tried to repress her glee as she studied them through the gate:
"We're going to need your wands as identification and for you to take veritiserum to ensure you are who you claim you are." McGonagall held out one bony hand and the three reached into their respective pockets for their wands before handing them over. There were then administered veritiserm and had to speak their names in turn after being asked:
"Severus Snape."
"Lucy Snape."
"Shona McGuire."
And their reason for wanting admittance to the castle:
"To resume my post as headmaster."
"To start my seventh year of education."
"To kick Zuc's butt if he shows up."
McGonagall laughed, knowing that she had no reason to be worried in the first place. The wands were checked and the gates were opened by Filch before the three finally stepped onto home soil once again.
"It's wonderful to see you all," McGonagall handed back their wands. "Especially you, Miss Snape. I feared we'd never see you again."
"I only took a detour, Professor, I'll come back to Hogwarts as many times as I'm welcome." Lucy smiled as she tucked her wand away.
Snape placed a hand on Lucy's shoulder. "We have a request upon Lucy's return."
"Absolutely, what is it?"
"Has breakfast begun yet?"

Matthew Jarvin sat down for breakfast with the rest of his friends at the Slytherin table that morning. As he shook some cereal from the box into the bowl he still couldn't shake the disorientated feeling he had from his dream last night. It was about Lucy but he couldn't remember the specifics but that didn't matter. It had opened the hole in his heart to a new extreme and he was left longing for her while also worrying where she was and what she was doing.
