Rape culture is asking what they were wearing or what they were drinking. Rape culture is a man being made fun or being called weak for telling his story. Rape culture is a teenager getting sentenced to jail for 6 months (but got out in 3) because they're an athlete and have a whole life ahead of them. Rape culture is everywhere; in movies, on television, and even in everyday language. We live in a society that treats rape like it's just a thing that happens; and if it happens to you, well that's too bad. But it's time we stop thinking like this. We need to stop people who think that only women get raped, and we need to stop letting people get away with saying "they're asking for it," or "boys will be boys." Young children (even adults) are hearing these things thinking they need to watch how they act or that they're weak if they come forward about their assault. Next time someone tries normalizing rape, say something. If the law is being unfair, stand up to it. If you're being catcalled, stick up for yourself; don't let them think you don't care that they're objectifying you. Rape is not the victim's fault; nor should it be treated like it's nothing.
